Attack of the Christmas tree lights

Well it's been 3 whole days with the new addition to the family and I've got Land Rover assistance on there way to prune my Christmas tree and remove some of the lights that adorn my dash Big Cry
Yesterday I had the information centre tell me the battery was flat and subsequently shut the car down. Tonight I was showing my better half how to use the various controls without the engine running and all hell broke loose flashing lights, clock spinning round and round it was like something out of Battery's not included. I spoke to the dealer today about the battery going flat and he said it probably just needs to be reset Sad
Do I smell Censored here or do they really need to be re set Question Big Cry Big Cry MY 11 RRS Luxury Stornoway Grey Ivory/Black leather contrast stitching Logic7 side steps roof DVD system for the grand daughter. You may find that you battery terminals arn't as tight as they should be, quite a few sports came out of the factory with loose battery terminals on the 2011 model. Whistle Might be worth checking. Thumbs Up

And good evening to you Ady. Normally I would but after just paying 44k for a car I'm Censored if I'm going to start tinkering with it. I don't even know where the battery is on the dam thing Confused Thanks for the quick reply mate, personally I think it may have a dodgy cell on it. My Merc has two battery's one for the ancillaries and one for starting. I can't believe at this level you can be stuck with a flat battery Big Cry Big Cry MY 11 RRS Luxury Stornoway Grey Ivory/Black leather contrast stitching Logic7 side steps roof DVD system for the grand daughter. Well we're back on line Exclamation what a palaver that was. Now tell me if I'm talking Censored here but ignition on for 10 minutes without engine running shouldn't flatten your battery should it:?: Question MY 11 RRS Luxury Stornoway Grey Ivory/Black leather contrast stitching Logic7 side steps roof DVD system for the grand daughter. It shouldn't kill it 10 minutes, no. Sounds like a duff battery.

On your earlier point, the RRS has a position for a second battery - it's on the driver's side (UK) behind the air filter box. One needs to add some kit to run though, I believe. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

My point exactly Exclamation apparently the battery is fine according to the AA mans box of tricks and the alternator is charging as it should. That's the beauty of the Merc system, if you run it flat you still have the other battery to start it. Bet my neighbours are having a laugh, new motor and playing up already. I wouldn't rely on the AA's diagnosis.

My TDV8 had a non-standard battery which was quoted as a higher rating than standard; I found out because I had a rattle and found that the battery clamp was loose (i.e. bolts floating around!).

The dealer replaced the battery and then found the non-standard unit had given the alternator indegestion so that needed replacing as well - various spurious fault codes were generated as well..

These cars have very senstitive systems so get it a full health check as soon as poss.
