Odometer error

Hi guys,

Last weekend we returned from our trip to Eastern Europe and I'm finally getting some time here and there to sort out niggling issues with my RRS.

Prior to leaving I knew the ARB bushes needed seeing to but I didn't have the time before our trip to look at these. The trip has highlighted the issue when in town driving. The 1450 miiles we did on motorways getting there you wouldn't know there was a problem.

The main issue for me is whilst we were on the way back, I parked up late at night in Poland for the night, stopped in a hotel and in the morning started the car and the Odometer displays Error instead of the total mileage the vehicle has covered.

Can someone shed some light on this issue and what may cause this issue. Or any ideas if I can pull a fuse for a short time etc etc.

I have it booked in to an independent for Tuesday morning to get put on the diagnostic machine but I always like to have a bit of knowledge from people who have had past experiences so I know worst case scenario and costs![/img] Current - RRS SE Rimini Red

thats usually a Transmission error. Does it clear when you re-start the car?

really need to have fault codes to get anything clearer. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

Thanks Bodsy

I went to start the car again this afternoon to pick my lad up from school and it wouldn't start. Message said Transmission Fault, the suspension went into access mode and lowered itself.

A couple of attempts later and it started fine and runs like it did before with no issues.

However - I now have the Error still displayed as I did before and the red high temp light is on continually and the yellow low fuel light is also illuminated. No transmission fault message though.

Plus both these dials are at rock bottom as though the ignition is off whilst driving.

I know it was just under 1/2 full of diesel this morning and both dials were working!

I am suspecting an instrument cluster failure here.

What are your thoughts? Current - RRS SE Rimini Red

could be lots of things TBH.
Dodgy Brake Bulb, Dodgy Brake pedal switch, it's just difficult to be too precise without fault codes on this one i'm afraid. Bodsys Brake Bible

Oh great!

And I was thinking it would be a fairly simple issue!!

I guess I'll have to wait until Tuesday morning to find out.

Am I right in thinking that whatever it is, some code will show up on Tuesday giving us an idea?

I have a generic code reader and this hasn't picked anything up.

I am thinking the LR diagnostics will read the canbus in the vehicle and whatever ECUs BCUs etc etc are in the vehicle for codes. Current - RRS SE Rimini Red

well, check your brake lights, you should be able to do that easy enough.
your generic code reader will probably only pick up the engine ecu codes (if any)
if its a place that does RRS/LR's then I would expect them to have the proper fault code reader. Ask them for a copy of the faults. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

It's Simmonites in Bradford I'm using.

They've been there years dealing in LRs and their engines.

When I was there this morning, they mentioned a name of some software but I've forgotten what it was called.

Brake lights are spot on. Current - RRS SE Rimini Red

Update on this issue.

The diagnostic machine has come up with 37 faults within the computer behind the instrument panel.

The independent has been on with LR techies and awaiting a response from them soon.

Apparently most of the electronic sensors etc are connected via the instrument panel from the bcus, becms etc but these appear to have no faults.

I will know later today or tomorrow what the techies think.

I've asked if a new panel is required for a costing and have been told £230 for the unit plus labour to fit. They reckon it's not a mega long job. Current - RRS SE Rimini Red

I've got the car booked in for this Friday for some more diagnostics and hopefully getting to the bottom of this issue.

Prior to today my generic code reader never came up with any codes.

Today out of interest, I scanned it and got a U0100 which when googled Come up as Lost Communication with ECU.

fuel gauge needle is on empty, as is temp gauge, both lights on, range 0 again.

It's a funny carry on as the faults are not consistent, sometimes the gauges work as they should, other times the car won't start, other times I have the temp gauge working but no fuel indication.

My gut feeling is some ecu has got its knickers in a twist Current - RRS SE Rimini Red

Just a bit of an update.

Well it's been on Testbook and of the 39 faults, 20 have been cleared but the remaining 19 cannot be cleared.

There is an error on the low speed and high speed canbus?

It's getting a new dash cluster fitted this week and were taking it from there. There may even be other modules that have been damaged along the canbus but Testbook wouldn't run all of its tests or stay connected Current - RRS SE Rimini Red

Had a phone call in the last 1/2 hour.

There's a new instrument cluster in the RRS now and the mileage and gauges are working. I've told them to keep it until tea time tomorrow and fully test it before I pick it up but looks like the instrument cluster is the cause of my issues after all. Current - RRS SE Rimini Red

Hi Stefan,

I have exactly the same problem. Did you finally know the reason?
Thanks for your reply.
