Help please - SRS Light On

Hi,

My first post and I'm asking for help!

Got a 56-plate TDV6.

Two weeks ago had the 'hdc fault, transmission failure' message - thankfully that was just the brake switch - phew!

Yesterday the SRS light didn't go out when I started the car.

And it's still not going out. After the 'system test' it goes out for a split second then comes back on again.

Any ideas? All help very gratefully received.

Thanks in advance,

G.

You need to get it on a fault code reader really - it could be an airbag fault or something silly like a broken or damaged wire under a seat. Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

Thank you and thank you.

I'm hoping that like the 'hdc fault' it's something silly, simple and cheap.

And not a wallet burner.

I had read that a low battery could do it.

And that the sat nav screen dimming when you start the car is a sign of a low battery.

Or is that all nonsense?

Not at all, battery/alternator have been the cause of many a problem, as have failed brake bulbs and brake switches. Shocked
All relatively easy to solve so worth checking as a matter of course before you venture deeper into prognosis. Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Is there a way to reset the fault warning?

I just want to see if it comes back on again.

And - you can tell I'm new to this can't you - what's a good fault code reader to get?

Thank you.

But sadly I'm not.

I've read quite a bit about cables under the seats having dodgy connectors that can cause this.

My local dealer also said that could be the problem.

I'm going to have a nose ...

Don't know if this is all connected but ...

When I started the car this morning I had a both heated screens on, the fan blowing hard , drivers heated seat and radio.

When I pressed the brake to put it into reverse I got a suspension fault (only normal allowed).

Turned the ignition off and on again, all ok.

But does that mean I have a dying battery and it's that causing my srs light problem?

"When I pressed the brake to put it into reverse I got a suspension fault "

Having had a very similar experience but with more warning lights come on,I would change the brake light switch, can get them for about 12 quid and it rids gremlins like you wouldnt believe! If anything is happening to said warning lights when your foot touches the brake......it will be the lovely little switch mechanism thats sparking gremlins to your OBC.

Looks like it was a dodgy connection under the seat.

All sorted now - phew.

Over the last few days when it's been really cold I've had another 'Suspension Fault'.

Got it when running front & rear heated screens, the heated seats.

My guess was the battery and it was. Which is kind of good I guess - cheaper than the suspension anyway Smile

Thanks to all for their help.
