United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Java Black
My Christmas Project

I decided that since I had 2 weeks off work at Christmas I should finally get around to modifying my wife's RR Sport Supercharged. I wanted it to remain subtle and use as many factory parts as possible so the following mods were carried out:

Replace door handles with Java Black
Remove all plastics and paint body colour, including bumpers and grill but only the side vent outers
Paint inside of headlights body colour
Replace rear lights with 2012 Piano Black units
Replace rear scuff plate with stainless
Fit DRL to fog lights, including controller for switching off with side lights
Wheels refurbished to anthracite
Exhaust silencer repkaced with Magnaflow, delete rear boxes, retain factory tail pipes
Paint interior vents, hockey sticks, radio trim and door pulls in piano black
Fit Land Rover seat covers to preserve Ivory leather
Full paint restoration by Andy at Uniique Detail (who I would reecommend to anyone) and interior valet

I'm very happy with the final result; I wanted individual without being extreme or using aftermarket parts. So this is what I ended up with:

And here are before and after shots of the paint correction

And finally a video of the new exhaust (which I'm sure will reduce my fuel consumption in tunnels and multi storey car parks Very Happy )

Very nice indeed. I did similar but not the headlamp inserts or wheels. I did get a remap to go with my straight through system and to be honest think the V8 diesel has more of a rumble than the petrol.

Might get a paint detail done but will wait till the spring I think. TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx

Thanks for the comments Thumbs Up

I did all the paint myself. the interior is quite easy, just used aerosol cans, black and lacquer. Applying thin coats will avoid runs. I bought some plastic trim removal tools which make getting it apart quite easy and be prepared to go hunting for the trim clips that spring off behind the dash.

The worst part is the headlights; We used a hot air paint stripper but, given the cost of replacements it was a tense time getting them apart. you need 2 people, one to heat and the other to gently prise them apart

Just key them with red Scotchbrite, a quick coat of plastic adhesion and 1 coat of primer, then gloss black and a couple of coats of lacquer for a good shine. The whole process takes a few hours and best to leave overnight between primer and top coat, so it's easily completed in a weekend.

Total cost is about 35 pounds (sorry no pound key) compared to hundreds if you buy them from Powerful UK.

btw if you look at the piano black trim on Powerful UK web site you will see all the videos telling you how to remove the trim pieces

Good info about prepping the plastics, I've wanted to paint interior parts before but have been too scared in case I ruined them!
Not sure if I'll do them I my Sport though, piano black looks great against your ivory but I'm not sure it would work so well with my beige leather...

I would be interested in the clock on dash, (Is this possible without the lights on indicator as I have Auto lights and don't want to use a 'wrong' dash light for this), phonebook on bluetooth (with Android phone) 3 flash indicators and Sat Nav on the move. There is no rush so anytime your down this way would be OK.

Can you PM me a price please.

thanks

Mike

As a suggestion you might want to look into putting a custom steering wheel to match the interior. I have similair piano black colour coded beast with also the inserts/trim on mine but with a leather stitched steering wheel ( thick grip at the sides, silver stitching) which has the top and bottom in like black wood. I love the feel and the look of it. Its so much better than the standard. 2007 Black on Black colour coded TDV8

Your RRS looks fantastic ! I wish mine looked as good. Thumbs Up

Do you have a link to the materials you used to paint the interior trim? I am thinking of giving this a go myself.

Can you tell me where you got the wheel from and how you removed the airbag. I tried to take the switch packs off to paint them but couldn't find the clips inside the little holes you're supposed to press to release the airbag.

Thanks. Mike
