heavy steering - UV joint ceased

just after some advice

steering on MY08 RRS has gone heavy - contacted the AA (which I have breakdown and repair cover with) and they suspected the power steering pump

subsequently took it to local landrover garage who have diagnosed It as a ceased UV joint.
When the garage contacted the AA to get claim number for repair they are knocking back the claim as wear & tear ??? has anyone experienced the same problem - the vehicle has only done 40,000miles has been serviced 6 times in this period all by approved landrover garages with the last service being just 3000miles ago .

I find it hard to believe that a UV joint would fault due to wear and tear with such little mileage .

I'm now being quoted £400 for replacement - is this reasonable - how hard to do myself or have I any grounds for complaint to the AA

advice would be appreciated

the part is abouit £50 and you can do it yourself if you are half familar with a socket set.

Its common for them to stick, quite often some WD40 and then some spray grease will get it going again for a short while.

I wouldnt class this as a wear and tear item TBH, but then again i'm not a warranty company.

You'll have to read the small print. If it has siezed, then it could be classed as a failure, if it is just a wobbly joint, then perhaps worn and not failed....?

They'll always try to get out of paying if they can. Bodsys Brake Bible

My steering is a bit heavy when not on the accelerator.

Do you have a photo of location of uv joint?

Wondered if giving mine a squirt of silicone might help. 2009 3.6 TDV8 HSE Santorini Black
