Not including the original purchase price, I think I spend about £4,000 running my RRS TDV6 - that is insurance (East London... about the double the price I used to pay in Kent |

If you buy one of that age, you can benefit from the full LR Approved warranty. This will help massively with the costs if things go wrong.

As someone else said, it depends on your outgoings! Mine is a company car, I pay myself the same way as most company directors do, and can afford it no problem on a regular monthly income much less than yours without dipping into dividends (I pay about £450/month in tax on the car)

Cheers ilard. That's the main point. Currently I'm paying £400 for the BM in finance payments, £35 PCM in warranty, £40 PCM equiv for annual servicing, £70 PCM insurance, about £100 PCM in fuel (i do about 750 miles per month) and the equiv of £8 PCM in annual RFL (annual is only £95!!!!!). So that little lot adds up to over £650 per month to run the BMW (trouble free). The finance quoted so far on the RRS i've got my eye on is over £500 PCM. The RRS is going to hurt isn't it? Time for the man maths? |

No idea as to the finance issue as I was lucky enough to have some cash when I bought mine. I can say that I pay: £100pcm for warranty (although this is only for a 10 month year (2 months "free" and includes LR Assist). You can get cheaper warranties I'm sure My last service was about £500 at a LR dealer - can be had much cheaper if you go indie. At 750 miles/month you're looking at one service a year I paid £480 for insurance this year for both of us fully comp and business use VED is £460 Fuel is the biggy. Driven gently you might average 22-25mpg or about 400-450 per tankful over susual mixed driving (more if you spend time on a motorway, less if you're mostly urban driving). At £100-120 per tankful you're looking at twice the fuel bill. Drive a TDV8 enthusiastically and you'll see <20mpg. On short runs around here I see 18mpg! On the plus side (for the man maths) they are fabulous places to be in. Not the best driver's 4x4, to be honest, but they just make covering distance so easy and you're safe in the knowledge that if conditions get bad they'll get you further than just about anything else. If you want a more road-focussed 4x4 (but with mud-ability) then you might want to look at the Cayenne diesel which will give you 35mpg driven gently. I was talking to a chap at a shoot on Boxing Day and he'd specced his up for getting around the farm and at shoots (the only Cayenne I've seen with AT tyres on). He told me how he'd been at a shoot and was the only non-LR there. It got everywhere the Defenders and Discos did in the rutted muddy conditions that they were in. He thought he might need to be towed but the thing was excellent in the mud. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

£6K a year would 'run' a Sport but you didn't say what it had to include. If you're including depreciation and/or repayments on a loan its going to be touch and go.

I think 6k per year will just do it, even with a little finance but if anything serious goes wrong, you maybe upside down unless you are happy to spend the money on an extended warranty. Remember, warranty does not cover wear and tear and companies are very good at classifying items as fair wear and tear. Good luck and let us know how you get on. |
