Cracked Alloy - what to do?

Hi,

Just noticed my front nearside tyre was flat so took it for puncture to be repaired only to find out the alloy is cracked.

I am guessing we had a slow puncture and driven the car with zero pressure = wrecking the alloy.

Been quoted £570.80 including balancing, fitting and VAT from local garage for a new genuine alloy wheel from land rover to be supplied and fitted.

I believe the land rover part number is 9H321007AAW and they are called "style 3"

One thought was to buy 4 brand new cheap alloys for £600 incase this happens again so it isn't so expensive to change one alloy but I am not sure on the quality of them for example, these http://www.wheelbasealloys.com/20_Inch_MAK...eels__7316

Are they really ok with the weight of a range rover sport on them?

Or do I source a 2nd hand alloy wheel that is the same spec size etc as the one that has cracked?
I.e. I have found this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RANGE-ROVER-SPOR...3a763eb829

Can anyone help or advise please?

Thanks

Paul

Most cost effective (& safest) way is to get a Genuine LR wheel from eBay or somewhere and replace the single cracked wheel. LCFC. Receiver of threatening letters from Overfinch.

Email the company and find out what weight the wheels are rated for, there have been discussions on here re wheels cracking due to the weight of the RRS.

If the wheels are adequate for the weight then no reason why you shouldn't get them as £570 from the stealership is extortionate!

Hi Sounds, good. We are unable to collect as too far (we are in Whitchurch Shropshire).

Tyres on car at moment are Accelera Iota 275/40/ R20 106Y XL

I don't suppose you are able to supply with same tyre?

Also, how much for delivery please?

Thanks

Paul

I would just like to say that that thread was well done. Well done to duck worthparts for sorting that out at a lot less price than the stealers.
After reading some other threads, this was a pleasure to see that we all help out each other when needed.

Two quick questions, is the tyre on the wheel a directional tyre? As it is to replace front nearside wheel.

At the moment I have the space saver wheel on which is a
255/50/R19 107Y Continental Cross Contact.

What psi should I have it set to?

Fronts are 'normally 33psi and back 36psi but not sure if the different size wheel/tyre should be at a different psi?

Thanks

Paul

The sticker on your drivers door tells you the pressures for the different sizes. I believe 33 is correct for 19s.

Ah, so it does, I missed that it also list 19" next to 20" I just saw the reference to T175/80R19 122M at 60psi and thought - what the hell is that about.

Thanks Smile

Agree it is great to see everyone working together and finding a solution for the IP. Only one thing a bit worrying - looks like he is going to end up with odd tyres on the same axle and worse still they won't be evenly worn. Doesn't this put a strain on the various expensive bits of transmission with their associated clutches and differentials and bits it seems no-one understands? Remember tyres are cheaper than new transmissions.Think I would be happier with two new tyres on that axle. Any technical experts like to cast some light here?

In the past on my Grand Cherokee V8 tried putting just new tyres on one axle and even that felt all wrong specially on full lock manoeuvering and there was a whine coming from somewhere at speed. Added another two new tyres to the other axle and suddenly all was transformed to silky smoothness. There was lots of conflicting misinformation on the relevant forums saying it was OK not OK etc. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE
