United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

Spoke to the dealer today. They "can't diagnose the starter motor issue" which is odd as I'd have thought a loud click from the engine bay and not turning over would suggest a knackered starter motor. And the coolant leak is apparently "very serious" but they "can't figure out where it's leaking" even after the chap suggested initially it was probably the EGR. Neither of which bodes well for me getting it back for the weekend.

As I've had to hire a little car (i10) from Enterprise to get about today (and now tomorrow too), I'm hoping that they'll lend me a 4x4 over the weekend - or I shalln't be able to go beating at a local shoot this week (need to take dog plus gear and the i10's boot is definitely not big enough for the dog).

Brummie-built box of bo Censored ocks. I can see why the British car industry died..." the best 4x4xfar" is my least reliable car by far.

<today>
Just spoke to the dealer. Still can't find a fault with the starter! And the leak is coming from the V of the engine apparently (and not from the EGR) so they're going to talk to the warranty people about what they want them to do. Also, apparently, Guy Salmon at Stratford only have "1 or 2 people who can diagnose and deal with the leak" which is an odd thing to say on their part - perhaps the rest of them YTS. They also have nothing for me to borrow over the weekend so I'm stuck hiring the i10 it seems. Probably going to be Tuesday or Wednesday before I know what's happening. Great.

<more>
Dealer says that warranty should cover it but they want it to be stripped and investigated (which won't happen until Tuesday). If the warranty decide not to play then I'm in for £350 for the investigation work plus whatever needs to be done to sort the leak. And they've also found a driveshaft seal has failed (definitely covered by warranty apparently) and front suspension arms have play in them which he thinks won't be covered as it's probably classed as "wear and tear".

Going to "off-hire" the i10 and make do with one car between us for a week - I fear I'm going to be parting with enough cash to LR without paying Enterprise for a car too. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

On my previous sport TDV6 i had a EGR valve cooler that was leaking but didn't know anything about it till a EGR valve failed and whilst swapping the EGR valve they noticed it had a leak, never noticed any water loss so must of just happened.

Had mine for just over a year now.
Had to get the 4 wheel alignment sorted, but that was something that should have been done at the factory/dealer, not a 'failure' as such - no big deal.

Almost a year to the day, it developed a turbo fault, which turned out to be a loose pipe clamp, so again, nothing particularly troublesome.

So, I suppose I could tick the trouble free for a year as neither of the above were serious (even if the later did take them 3 days to find the cause Laughing )

....and as rrsboy said, the site will be naturally biased towards people that have had 'issues' Wink

I would define trouble free motoring as the car not going to the garage for anything except a service.

4 wheel alignment and then 3 days in the garage for a turbo fault are not trouble free.

I know forums are generally biased towards people with problems but that was not what I asked. 2009 3.6 TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Arctic Frost

2005 TDV6 HSE 105K...FSH last 25K under my ownership. Only problems so far (I know of) have been split turbo hose (£45 to fit and fix), DVD won't play disc 6 (minor niggle) and a leaky sunroof which needed the drain hole unblocking.

Really pleased with mine... 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE in Artic Frost. 20" 2010 HST Alloys, sidesteps, Hawke tips, plus minor bits and bobs along with a remap. Four spike spiders ready for the Alps again now tucked up in their garage boxes...
