Hi guys,

On my rr sport I've noticed a knocking sound coming from the front of the vehicle.

I've been out for a drive to the lakes today and when travelling over rough tarmac surfaces it knocks. It can be felt through your feet on the floor.

Also, not sure if this is related but if I push the brake pedal firmly I get a knock also.

My initial thoughts are bushes that have failed and need replacing but where do I start? Ie which bushes do in replace first. Then do I go for stock rubber type or poly?

If you guys could shed some light on it and advise me I'd be most grateful

I don't know what suspension work has previously been carried out, hence not sure if the bushes are originals that are worn after 6yrs and 97k.

Surely if I replace all the bushes it will help? Or am I wasting my time?

that would be i guess a good option BUT its going to cost you a few bob..!!!

I'll be doing the work myself, then getting a 4 wheel alignment done.

Could someone point me in the right direction for a diagram of the front end suspension setup so I can see exactly what bushes I require?

Look on the Disco3 site. They have photo guides on how to change the ARB bushes which will help. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Just fit the shims. Much cheaper, easier and quicker to replace than the whole bushes

what are the 'shims' and where could I get a set? Plus what are they like to fit?

The bushes themselves are only about £6 each for the front arb but I'm not sure how easy/difficult a job they are to fit, plus once changed will the wheel alignment need to be done?

The shims cost around £1.50 from a main dealer, and there are 4 in the pack, 1 for each bush. Part number is LR012410. There is a how-to in my sig for fitting. They were fitted to a D3 in that guide, but is exactly the same procedure for a non-ARC RRS.

Would I be as well putting some new bushes on anyway together with the shims you mentioned so it has new rubber?

Nah. I have never seen a bush wear out again, after fitting the shims. Would be one option, or the other

I was just wondering if I'm under the beast in any event to do it.

I'm hoping the arb shims will cure the knocking, if not it might be down to lower suspension arm bushes but thats a much bigger and involved job for the warmer months!

Apart from this knocking, I'm almost sorted with the car in every other aspect.

If you press the brake pedal sharply, and you get a single "clunk" then it will be down to front lower wishbones...

That's also a noise I'm getting from the near side. Where I live I come down a hill and turn left into my street. Here is a small cobbled speed bump and if the near side wheel travels over it first, I get the clunk and no matter what surface I'm driving on and if I brake firmly I get a clunk too. But when travelling over rough ground I can feel something knocking which is why I'm suspecting not only arb but suspension lower arm.

Am I right in my way of thinking?

For the cost of those shims I may as well try them first, and save some pennies for the lower suspension arm
