How many 4x4's go off road Rolling with laughter

By better, I mean better fuel economy, better road manners (handling etc), better acceleration, better brakes, better reliability, better depreciation. All the objective things that one can actually measure. I'm hoping that the new RRS will cover more of these areas by virtue of losing a chunk of weight - the FFRR is some 400kg lighter. If they can do the same thing with the Sport then that will be great.

It's the subjective stuff that we love about the Sport. The "feel good" stuff that will vary between each of us and which can't easily be measured.

As for the off road ability, it's fairly moot anyway. Most RRS are treated to big wheels and high gloss polish and their owners would have a fit at the thought of their vehicles getting dirty, let alone axle deep in muck. Indeed, for most owners, the Sport (and the majority of 4x4 on the road) may as well be 2WD. I was at Eastnor LRE last week. An X5 came in to the car park while we were waiting to go out on the self-drive. Someone made a comment about it being pointless because it had all of the weight, complexity and expense of a 4WD system that was never taken off road etc. I pointed out that the vast majority of Land Rover products fit the same desciption - most of the LR stuff we see on the roads will never go further off road than the supermarket car park.

I disagree...you can have a fantastic car - but rubbish off road, BMW x5 is rubbish generally (personally even as a car)...the x5 cant even work properly off road - FACT.

The point is the sport is a great package, great on road - great handling, fantastic off road - depreciation is no better or worse than any others

Ive been after a RRS for a few years now, been looking at all the alternatives, but it always came back to the RRS , it just looks the best and since i bought it , it has proved a great drive , i seriously considered a Cayenne & have been to the Porsche offroad track at Leipzig and tried one round there, great car and it can also perform on the track as well BUT the RRS wins it on its Chunky looks and performance on the road, its a great design and looks to be improving at every update. looking forward to the next one, i will be ready to move into a newer model by the time they are a couple of years old...... its just the dog's dangles.... i love it so far .....

TST

I'd agree with most of what's been said. As I've only been an RRS owner for 6 weeks perhaps the negatives are still to come but the more time I spend behind the wheel, the more I love it and the happier I am that I cancelled the order for the Cayenne. And that is what the bean counters (sorry BC) at What? can never factor in to their sums.

Looks like the Sport did badly in reliability terms too. Not that we needed to be told that of course...

http://www.which.co.uk/news/2012/07/which-...12-291377/ 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

That'll be me then Very Happy

Yes they certainly have a wide appeal. I don't think that reliability would be as big an issue if LR didn't sweep common problems under the carpet and frustrate the owners. Saying that I do 99% of the work on my cars myself so I've been happy as Larry with mine so far (touch wood).

If LR just pretended they cared a bit more then they'd have much happier customers!

I currently have a Cayanne loaner while my sport has some body issues sorted, brilliant 3.0 diesel (VW) very quick, economical, handles like a sports car, but bottom line is I couldnt live with it long term, I can't wait till the sport comes home
