Engine remapping on TDV8 Model, do they work?

I am about to purchase a 2007-2008 TDV8 and wish to gain a little more MPG and performance from the car, has anyone fitted one to there TDV8 and if so was there a noticeable improvement in performance and MPG?

Which company did you use as i have seen several, all quoting the same improvement figures and roughly the same cost of £275.

Performance yes - its a no brainer.

mpg - dont buy one of these if mpg worries you very much. Also NO - it made no material difference. 2007 TDV8 HSE, Stornoway, 20" HST alloys + GG ATs, HST body kit and Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm)
2002 Freelander 2.4 ES, Black, 16 alloys +GG AT2s

Many thanks Barnsnape, i'm not too bothered about MPG as i know they run at about 25 MPG, but was thinking if i get an extrA 2-3 MPG it all helps the old kitty. If yours made no difference did you get a full refund as many are offering this if your not happy within 14 days?

No I did the remap for the driving pleasure it brought. The on tap torque, at a rev range you can use it is quite stunning.

I drive all sorts of styles, long runs, local and sometimes off road. So it was very difficult to be specific about mpg before versus mpg after. I dont think its any worse but I dont strongly think its any better.

I would though - without any hesitation - recomemnd the remap. 2007 TDV8 HSE, Stornoway, 20" HST alloys + GG ATs, HST body kit and Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm)

Bas (site sponser) remap installed on Tuesday.

Me for the last 5 days

So, so worth it, I was dubious about getting it done for ages as I wasnt sure how much difference 45-50bhp was actually going to make but overtaking is now a breeze and scaring boy racers away from the lights has become my new passtime.

I'm sure the MPG might settle down a bit if I can stop treating the accelerator like I hate it, but for now it's either buried in the carpet or I'm on the brakes Embarassed

As you can probably guess I'd say go for it, it turns and already quick TDV8 into another animal alltogether.

Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Mr. Green  RRS TDV8 (loving it)

Yah, AliveTuning mapped TDV8 here...defo recommend mapping the beast.

It certainly males a noticeable difference throughout the rev range.

In the end I paid a little more for their Atric device meaning I can remove/install the map when required. Very handy, necessary really, if your car is still under a warranty.

To a point, a remap can dial-out some of the "detuning" manufactureres put into their engine maps to favour fuel economy at the key measured speeds (56 mph for example) to make their published figures look better. In real life this could mean a slight drop of torque at the appropriate revs which translates in you working the throttle harder to make up for it. It's barely noticeable. A remap can even these things out, making the car smoother to drive and thus improve MPG if driven the same way.

Of course, once remapped, people tend to drive harder because they have more power and see an MPG degradation as a result, however, it might be less severe than if you drove the same way without it Wink

another Thumbs Up from me on remapping the TDV8

I have the Alive tuning remap which Gary did for me at the Land Rover show last year in Peterborough.

The journey home to Kent produced huge smiles Mr. Green TDV8 now with extra grin factor thanks to Alive Tunning: Gone but not forgotten

BAS mapped TDV8
Current MPG is 24.9
Performance is superb

The standard map feels very lethargic in comparison.
Even more so than the standard 2.7 TDV6 v's mapped 2.7 TDV6 comparison. Wink RRS gone

Anyone got graphs showing where in the rev range and for for long these improvements in power and torque are evident?

on a slighty different note, i had mine remapped 6 weeks ago, by the time i got home 25 miles, it was smoking like hell, checked up on here, and a few people thought it was normal, over the next week the smoking got worse, so i had it taken off, the smoking calmed down a bit but was still in evident, i rang the guy back as i wasnt happy, however he was on holiday for a few weeks, but assured me he had put my orginal map back on.
So i took it to my local indie, who told me that the extra boost had split the right hand side intercooler pipe, and charged me £14.32p for a new one, that i fitted within 3 minutes.
On further discussion with my indie friend, he assured me the pipe hadnt split because of the extra boost, the pipe is well known for splitting, and all the remap had done was to accelerate the problem.
So im now tempted to go back and get the remap done again.
Just something to watch out for, the pipes only last a few years before splitting.
open the bonnett, you will see two identical hoses/pipes running from the intercooler ( front of car ) to each side of the engine bay, they are about a foot long. 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))
