Quick question on your rims...

Once you've started the car and cleared the original message that states TPMS is not available, does the message disappear until the next time you start the car?

If mine did this, I could happily live with it, as I appreciate that the non-standard wheels will cause the message at start-up, but it's the on-going messages when the car thinks it can see the non-existent sensors, and then subsequently tells me again that TPMS is not available, that are really annoying.

The option is definitely there on autologic; to select it as not fitted - as I toyed with turning it on... that's on the 2013MY - i cant see why it wouldnt be an option on earlier years Mike

i don't know if its the same whine your having, but on my FL2 (and all the others i have driven) there is a electronic high pitch whine when you turn it off I understand its the electronic throtle resetting its self.

I know its not the same car, and i don't recall hearing it on RRS, but worth mentioning as you are describing what they do exactly

Could you not fit TPMS sensor in the wheels?

Thanks - I'll have another word with the dealer and see whether they can change the settings to 'not fitted'.

This is a series of short squeaks for 5 seconds or so, rather than a longer whine.

I'm not sure if the TPMS sensors would work in these wheels, as in common with a number of other owners with 22" rims, I've had to increase the tyre pressures over factory settings, otherwise the tyres look under-inflated and are virtually running on the shoulders.

When I took the car back to the dealer, they said they couldn't do anything unless the tyres were at recommended pressures, so they returned them to normal. All this achieved was to make the traction/skid control cut in even more frequently.

Dealers can sometimes be simple though - they dont use autologic (although there system can do the same), so a good independent might be in order. Mike

Thanks - I've used TFC from the Disco3 forum for all my servicing/maintenance for the past few years and he tried to change the TPMS settings a few months back.

According to his diagnostic computer, (no idea of make/type), he had switched off TPMS, but it still flashed up the same warnings when I drove it, so I thought maybe the LR dealer may have access to other settings, but perhaps not, in that case?

It may not have applied or been reset - if you set your CCF to not fitted it wont work regardless (just like timed climate Thumbs Up or the trailer sockets Thumbs Up ) Mike

Thanks mate, this sounds worth investigating further.

(Just to show my ignorance, what is CCF?)

CCF = Car Configuration File, essentially defines what the car is configured with/without. Technically, changing the CCF can enable or disable features that were not part of the car's original specification.

Thanks - that makes perfect sense now.

Just when I thought I was close to cracking the TPMS problem with help from this forum, the following is the reply from the local LR dealer, when I asked if they could update the CCF as suggested:

After receiving your email yesterday I discussed the TPMS system with my workshop manager and out Land Rover senior technician. They concluded that the most efficient route of obtaining an answer for you would be to contact Land Rover directly, so we have raised a Technical Report (762465) with Land Rover.

We stated “Customer has fitted 22” wheels and tyres to his vehicle. The vehicle was originally fitted with TPMS, and now obviously the TPMS warning light is on. Can the system be de-activated so this light will not be displayed?”

Land Rovers response was “Hi unfortunately you will not able to turn this off as it is a safety feature of the vehicle and we are unable to comment on taking vehicle out of the manufacturer specification”

I am sorry that we are unable to be more of assistance than this, but we have asked the manufacturer directly and you can see from the response above that there is no way we can turn this system off.

Is it likely that an independent could deal with this, as LR are still uninterested in helping?

I'm obviously willing to pay/travel, (within reason!), to get this sorted out.

First - i couldnt have told you that land rover would have said that...to be honest if you push them (by pointing out other cars dont have it) they may relent - but i doubt it due to the potential exposure as they see it as a safety system.

Also letting them know you have 22" wouldnt be something (if i had them) i would do as that again A) removed any warranty and b) would be a departure from spec and thus they wouldnt recommend or comment other than to declare the car unsafe.

Anyway - the point is it can be done - im not sure where you are and it might help finding someone to have a go - if your up Warwickshire way, i could possibly recommend someone. Mike

Thanks Mike - I guess I was expecting too much of a main dealer?

For some reason they took it upon themselves to mention the 22" rims in the report to LR - personally I would have just mentioned wheels without TPMS sensors, rather than mentioning the non-standard rim size to confuse the issue further....

I've sent a message to TFC from the Disco3 forum, who has worked on my cars previously, to see if its something he can do for me.

If not, it may be worth a trip to Warwick, even though it's not exactly local - (I'm near Heathrow).

Cheers,
Rob
