I fitted a performance camshaft to my P38 (4.6 v which allegedly added 15/20bhp and felt the difference instantly, much smoother to drive. Besides additional power, remapping can bring some fuel economy too. Manufacturers "tune" cars to be fuel efficient at 56mph in order to improve their consumption figures for example. So that often results in a flat spot which can be mapped out with remapping and therefore improve overall response, meaning less throttle action and fuel consumption around that area. Additional torque from the engine can also mean that less throttle is needed to pull out to overtake, etc... again a smoother easier ride that's more fuel efficient, the very reason why the TDV8 can be more economical than the TDV6 despite being a larger engine. What remapping can also do - and that's the downside - is sail closer to the operating tolerances of the engine, say a manufacturer builds 10% safety margin and the remapping drops that to 5%, increased engine wear can result. As will every other component if you drive it harder thanks to the extra power. You win some, you loose some, but many remaps pay for themselves in fuel over time (unless you have a heavy foot to start with... you don't get more power without more fuel). "Roads ? Where we're going there are no roads." Back to the future. |

My local tune up garage, arranged for a technician to come through from Scotland, to Re-Map several cars, on the same visit.

Superchips... they used mine as a test bed and so after many attemps we finally got 420bhp @ £490 and yes you do notice the mid range difference. Also good is a full sports system (including cats) air filter etc. |
