Drying out carpets

Had a couple of big storms here in Spain a month ago and the blanket I have across the windscreen and tucked into the doors allowed a lot of water to seep in. Dried off the carpet surfaces and thought all was fine but 2 weeks ago the front windows stopped working, had it in the garage last week and they found a wire in the passenger [lhd] footwell har corroded. The sponge on the back of the mats is full of water. Have tried a de-humidifier in the cabin but no water was collected, now have the doors all open and the carpet lifted slightly off the floor.
Amyone have any other suggestions?, garage says that it will be expensive to take carpets out [the repair cost €174] Silver 2006 2.7 tdv6

You could always cut a 50 mm hole with a hole cutter, this would allow a little air to blow in under the carpets when driving and help dry them out, also act as a drain hole, when dry simply insert a 50 mm blank grommet in the hole and know one would ever know.
