A throttle sensor error will trigger limp home mode (virtually no power whatever throttle you select)

Are you not getting a limp mode error on the dash?

As far as I'm aware, there are 2 sensors, one counts "up" and the other counts "down". The ecu compares both values and applies the correct amount of throttle accordingly, if the ups and downs do not match, you will IMMEDIATLY get limp mode (safety measure) only cleared by stopping the car for a length of time. RRS gone

No limp home mode, I used to get that in my last one, "safe mode".

I'll check the water temp, why would this be a factor? Long suffering Land Rover owner

it also causes limp home.. if ECU thinks engine is overheating, it will cut the power to protect it from damage.. I experienced first hand several times going up hill.. turned out a lead to the fan was not connected, meaning the fan wasn't working

there is also a recall for fan wires that were plumbed in back-to-front meaning the fan rotated the wrong way ============

Strange thing about this problem, is there is no fault showing on the dash, it only shows up when the technician plugs his laptop in. Then it shows the car traveling along, and then the engine goes to idle. Long suffering Land Rover owner

Ive also see mud and similar clogging airflow over radiators triggering overheating and limp home mode - not on a sport though, but its possible. Mike

Had the same thought, I recall the puma defender not liking Salisbury Plain mud. No indication of overheating on the needle, but instant limp home on the third lane of the motorway due to overheating Shocked Shocked Shocked

You are correct, although I cant fully remember what the issue was as i dont think it was clear cut eg: this MY + Clog = Fault

Anyway, the results were similar...and as mentioned not indicated as you would expect. Mike

Land Rover eventually found the fault. It was "the car getting stuck in 3rd gear, and occasionally 6 or 7.

Now sorted, new vehicle getting delivered end of November, with a mileage contribution from me! Long suffering Land Rover owner
