What is the procedure for taking wheels off an RRS?

Hi, I want to take the wheels off my Range Rover Sport in order to have them refurbished. It's the first Range Rover I've owned, I have a quick lift jack and axle stands but just want to confirm that they're suitable to leave under the car as I'm told it can affect the air suspension. Is it the type of job you have to do on a 4 poster ramp or is it okay to take the wheels off one at a time with the stand in place? Also I've been told that you have to leave the tailgate open to save the suspension moving once the car is in the air? Thanks.

Can't see why you couldn't use axle stands provided you're putting them under something solid. They'll need to be pretty tall or you'll some packing under them to raise them.

As for the suspension, yes, the car may try and level itself while being lifted, so a door/tailgate open stops this happening. If you're doing all four at once, I'd disconnect the battery before starting anything.

Maybe (not sure), locking the suspension in access height will stop it playing about when raised.

Thanks for your reply, as for disconnecting the battery, will that result in me losing a radio code? Thanks again.

Well, seeing as I've been advised to disconnect the battery, I need to know if I will lose the code or not? Or do Land Rovers/Range Rovers not have one?

Ditto, no radio code on mine either, you might loose radio presents and the clock will need resetting on the radio if this is where yours is.

Hanging the wheels has to be done in extended hight, did this before the summer to rotate the tyres, once up in the air with your hi lift jack stick axle stands under chassis rails and you will be fine

Spot on.

Be very carefully lifting all the wheels of the ground at the same time(as some ramps do) it can blow the Censored out of the compressor. If you took some fog and put it in a jar, would it be missed.

Sorry, procedure for jacking the car is really important

Its air suspension to MAX height, hazards on. I always was shown to open the windows, but not sure why or if you need to.

Tailgate does not need to be open.

Jack away (avoiding the compressor on the chassis rail) Mike

A simple safety measure I always did was but the wheel under the chassis in case the RRS slipped off the jack. I used to have an air jack which was fab lifting the car. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

There are a few jack safety tips...the wheel one can be useful - but not always the thing to do.

I have 2 3t pro jacks 4 3t individual axle stands and 2 2ton jacks and im never 100% confident under them...but the professional jacks make the home jacks look scary Mike

That's Censored sorry, a door has to be open this disables the suspension, but a door can blow shut so the tailgate is used. Try adjusting the suspension with a door or tailgate open, nothing to do with the windows. Forums are dangerous when wrong info is given out ! If you took some fog and put it in a jar, would it be missed.
