When I was looking around to get mine, the decision was either a 6 month old TDV8 (there seemed to be loads on the market at that point Confused , ex JLR cars maybe Question ) or a new SDV6.
I decided that although the TDV8 is a great engine, the interior, multimedia and new features of a MY12 car far outweighed the earlier model - a decision I don't regret one bit Thumbs Up

I can hear rrsboy cringing as he reads this Laughing , but if you are reading rrsboy, you should get James to loan you a newer model to compare to your 'ooh la la' TDV8 and you can report back with an objective POV Wink Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

There were some reasonable differences just between the 2010 and 2011 but slightly more significant differences between the 2011 and 2012 - making the gap between a 2010 TDV8 and a 2012MY (or even 2013MY) huge

The FFRR is ok - but im only a 30% fan, plus its dated, not as cool a bit boring inside etc

I was very pleased with my 2011MY and even more pleased by the 2013MY even though there was only 18 months between them and i loved the 11 with no major desire to change Mike

I had similar reasoning to Beancounter. I'd driven a TDV8 as well as a MY11 RRS and decided that the V8 was a great engine but burned quite a lot more juice with no great increase in oomph, a conclusion firmed up when driving a MY13.

Although I'd quite like the split tailgate the power one is very good and when you've got your hands full of diving gear, dog or shopping it's much easier just to press the button.

Finally, i think the new ZF 8 speeder makes a difference. It seems quicker to lock up into direct drive than the old 6 speed version, although I really cant be bothered with the paddle shift- with eight gears to play with I'm flicking away like the proverbial pinball wizard. Rod

Mainly financial, its better if i change annually - partially whim (i actually was going to order a red and wait 6 months but i didnt need to) - partially because i liked the infotainment system - partially with a forward view to the future

Im glad I did - I just wouldnt say that i was unhappy with the 11my which was a perfectly fine vehicle Mike

I changed form a MY08 to MY10 then to a MY12 - MY 12 is a 100% better car and a smoother drive the the previous - even if the range when completely full is only 360 mile ! (the 08 used to show 440 miles)

On a recent 500 mile trip, I got around the low to mid 30's, not bad as we were 4 in the car and 4 bikes hanging off the back, with a fair amount of motorway driving (London to South Wales).
With a few spirited drives it'll be around the 28/29 mark, so all in all not bad at all. Its no 'blue motion' but better than I was expecting if I'm honest. Smile ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I'm getting around the same as Bc, which isn't bad for such a big motor, and i'm more than happy with that Very Happy mine has clocked up approx 4k miles now and is feeling better as the miles clock up. Wink
