HELP - Stuck Key in Tow Bar

I have a RR SPort that I bought at Xmas.

It came with the removable tow bar in the boot and I am looking at using it now but when I got it out, the key appears to be stuck in the tow bar.

First question:
1) How can I remove the key from the lock ? I have tried WD40 and oil but no luck.

The key turns the lock fine but in the unlock position, I can's seem to raise and turn the green thing (don't know what to call it) when the tow bar is off the car. I am worried about fitting it to the car and then not being able to remove it.

Second question:

2) Does that only lift and turn when the tow bar is on the car or can you lift and turn when the tow bar is not fitted ?

Also, can someone also PM me the part number and instructions for replacing the lock.

If I can't get the key out I think my best course of action may be to just replace the lock and avoid any issues whilst on the road.

Thanks Proud owner of a 2008 TDV8 HSE.....and an Audi A3 2.0T DSG Cab and a Porsche 911 Turbo (Mercedes W208 320 CLK and Mercedes W124 E220 Estate now gone)

Ive had the same issue previously.
I removed the Tow ball and laid it on its side to allow WD40 to soak through the lock overnight.
Then i exercised the lock & the key came out easily and never had a problem since.
The sprig loaded cam should exercise when it is in out of the vehicle aslo.
hope this helps

I had a similar problem recently on my new RRS.

It turned out that the hitch had got itself partially into the "mounted" state (ie. it thought it was in the bracket under the car). This can be seen by the appearance of an otherwise hidden locking bolt that appears out of the lock casing.

You need to wiggle the green actuator and push the locking bolt back in to get it fully into the unmounted state so it will release the key 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

Thanks.

I can see the bolt (is it the big piece of silver square metal?) but it doesn't appear to be protruding outside the hole - should it be completely hidden/recessed way down in the housing ?

See photo below...

When I turn the green knob, it moves slightly and I can see the bolt moving slightly but that is about it.

On the other side you should see a small silver pin - it is when this is depressed it releases the pin in your pic locking it to the socket...

Perfect Thumbs Up

Fixed it. There was nothing wrong with it.
It appears that the key only comes out when it is locked in place (or thinks it is locked in place)

Did what you said and the key came out. I had to put it back in though and reset in order to get the big bolt to retract in order to get it attached to the car, at which point the green knob popped and secured in place.
