Just bought a Range Rover Sport 2.7 HSE....Advice please!!

Hi

I have just bought a 2005 55 plate Rangerover Sport 2.7 HSE with 52,000 miles on the clock and gave £18250 for it from a reputable dealer.

I did some research before taking the plunge and have seen mixed reviews on reliability.

Basically I have bought it to keep my kids safe whilst on the road and now I am reading about electrical faults where the car can just die whilst doing 70mph in the fast lane amongst several other major faults!!!!!

Are there any common faults that I am pretty much guaranteed to come across?

Can anyone reassure me that I havent bought a death trap that is going to be in the garage al the time??

Also looking at the AA Breakdown,Repair and Garage cover.......Anyone had any experience with this or can recommend a good cast iron Warranty company? To add to that does the car have to be main stealer serviced to qualify for cover?

Many thanks

Mike 2009 3.6 TDV8 HST

Don't panic......no one goes on forums to say their car is running perfectly. Only a very small percentage have problems and this is where they come to seek advice etc.
I just ran my Discovery 3 for four years without a glitch. Don't get paranoid and enjoy your car....any car can break and then you fix it Very Happy

Good choice.

All the cars sometime have problems.

First thing you can do to the car is to remap it.

Enjoy it. !!! RRS TDV8 !!!

Thanks Toni......I heard that remapping can cause problems with the gearbox as it is already working at its limit. is that true or a load of rubbish??

Can it increase MPG? 2009 3.6 TDV8 HST

I am really growing fond of mine. I was a bit unsure of it when I got it but as the miles clock up the lovely driving qualities of the car shine though. Enjoy, it and don't worry, mine is almost 20k on the clock and does not have a single rattle. (please may the god of rattles not be tempted when reading this).

Driving it in good and bad weather it has never put a foot wrong, very secure for children.

Thanks Graham......Just hope the older ones...ie 2.7 V6 are as good as yours!! :O) :O) I searched high and low for a 55 plate with low mileage and eventually found one less than 5 miles from where I live!!!!!!! (Must be fate).

Still might think anout the AA Breakdown/Parts&Garage cover...........£146 for the year with up to 5 claims a year of £500.

Anyone had any other extended warranties that are a good option? 2009 3.6 TDV8 HST

Hi Mikey

I bought my wife an 05 supercharged with a Landrover warranty...had to use it a couple of times (new compressor and height sensor) and would highly recommend it

On the reliability and safety front just returned from a 1000 mile round trip to Rrance without a single issue...however didn't manage to drive past many petrol stations !!!! Big Cry

Having had the car for a couple of months, love the RRS so much looking to up-grade to a newer Supercharged next year Very Happy ......oh and my wife like her car! BMW 530D 2011 still here
Porsche Boxster S gone - RRS Supercharged bought to transport 2 Tibetan Terriers!!

really you bought a car then went on the internet to read about all the things that could possibly go wrong with it?

Hi mikey7985,

First drive it as it is for a while (1-2 monrhs). If you are happy whith it than do not remap it. (maybe is allready remaped by the pprevious owner)

If you want to get more from the car than remap it.

I recommend BAS Remap. !!! RRS TDV8 !!!

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Arctic Frost

Hi Mikey,

I bought an 05 plate HSE last year. I have it well looked after and it's got 100K on the clock. I have a remap and a big grin to go with it!

It's a great car and I'm happy. It does have character and a few niggles but nothing to cry about (warranty direct in case there ever are to help with the costs).

Enjoy.... 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE in Artic Frost. 20" 2010 HST Alloys, sidesteps, Hawke tips, plus minor bits and bobs along with a remap. Four spike spiders ready for the Alps again now tucked up in their garage boxes...

Mikey
Had Land Rovers for years, love em also hate them at times. Best bet if you want to avoid problems IMHO is NEVER use Joe Bloggs back street cheepo place down the road, stick with a main dealer or a specialist Land Rover garage.
Remap is 2.7 is a prerequisite Talk to Pete Bell. Gearbox can handle the extra torque with ease. Thumbs Up In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.
