What happens if?????

To begin with I do not suggest that anyone tries this on their own car!

Driving along with my 11 year old daughter yesterday when out of the blue she asks "Dad, what happens if you press the start button while you are driving?" Confused

Later in the day I had to pop into the dealership where I purchased my RRS, so I asked the same question as my daughter. Answer was "We don't know!"

So any tech heads out there who know the answer?????

Jim

I would assume there is an override that says 'you can't do that' above a certain speed. Confused

Pop out and try it Jim and report back Whistle Laughing ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

is it just not like switching off with the key (which is terrifying!!) engine cuts out, power steering fails and the steering lock locks!!, but then as it is an electrical gadget there will be some sort of backup!!
cheers

If it all goes horribly wrong I'll just tell the insurance company / Land Rover warranty "Oh, its OK, Beancounter said it would be fine!"

Been nice knowing you Jim.

Agree Dave, but I do wonder if there is some override Confused
Funny, my last 4 cars have all had a stop/start button and I've never thought about this. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I like you inquisitiveness pea Laughing If there's a button, press it. Thumbs Up

My ability to do handbrake turns has been severely hampered since the invention of EPB. Rolling with laughter ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I have tried the EPB whilst moving. It works. It uses the ABS system to work all the brakes as I understand it. If you had a failure of the hydraulic system then the EPB could also be used to stop you but it would be a bit slower, obviously.

I think there's something in the manual about using the EPB to slow down. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Not sure that is true X5.... I often pull on to the drive and hit start and at rest the gear selector automatically finds park before shutting down

On the 8 speed box, when you come to a halt with it still in D, then press the stop/start button, the dial goes into P as it shuts down, did this by mistake one day Embarassed I wouldn't like to try it on the move though. Shocked

Never thought about the post 2012 MY , suppose that would make sense as the select is electronic but again it won't stop the engine until the car has stopped moving i assume..... pre 2012 the select is manual as I'm sure your aware.

on a freelander2 the engine dies if you press (and hold) the stop start. steerig lock stays on unless you remove the fob from the dock.
