What actually happened to the rim, did the driver hit any pot holes, etc.... Before the wheel disintegrated, seems unbelievable that it happened when cruising along the motorway. 2.7 TDV6

Don't think the thickness of the alloy would you tell as much as the material analysis, manufacturing process etc but would be good to find out.

Sadly I haven't got time to be measuring the thickness of the metal on our wheels but I'll happily sell you a set if you'd like to chop them up and get the tape measure out over the bank holiday weekend

Think youve asked the million dollar question there Big Ken.... its ok saying the alloy is knackered but for all we know the guy could have been out jumping it off cliffs Its maybe failed when driving along the motorway but unlikely thats whats caused the inital problems.

@Overfinch.... surely youve got something a bit more high tech than a tape measure for things like that

Ouch, must have been some size of pothole

I ran a set of copy supersport 22's for twenty thousand miles, had them stripped and powdercoated twice with no problems at all.

I have since bought a genuine set of supersport 22's and the quality and finish compared to the copys is another league, the car even drives better, copy's may or may not be more prone to failing, but at the end of the day you only get what you pay for, the more expensive genuine wheels have a far superior finish and look to them, imo.

Are you sure it's not a placebo effect convincing you the extra ££££ were worth it

Must say I'm still not convinced either way. In this thread we have a rep thats been knackered, an overfinch one that's been cracked and repaired 3 times and what looks like a kahn one(unless the kahn man says It's a replica, I have no idea) that's also been knackered. There's also stories of original l/r alloys cracking etc.
Out of interest does anybody know what sizes these alloys were? All 22's? Maybe pointing towards the fact that the tyre profile is just too small on a 22" wheel.

For me it seems to come down to individual choice, spend the money and go for a major brand which should provide a certain peace if mind or take a gamble and go with a replica.
