United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover Sport Supercharged HST Java Black

Yes you should never buy anything of a poor quality and put it on a Range Rover or any other car for that matter. Any chance of a quote for a New RRS Supercharged Autobiography James? Thumbs Up

I'm not convinced there a big difference between genuine and copy if it's load rated for yor vehicle wats the problem? Only reason I'm saying is cos I've always used genuines or copied or aftermarket n not had a problem until now I'm stuck with 3grands worth of genuine OF supersport in the garage cos they've cracked 3 times now so unsafe to use and they are rated at 1050kg Java black 2006

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

i have Overfinch copys on my RRS, they where on when i bought it, and i didnt know any better, but i am reluctant to change as i had a Merc E320 with 18" Genuine AMG alloys before the RRS. i know they where genuine as i paid over £2000 for them from Merc. Just over a year later, the laquer had flaked off, quite badly on one wheel, and to be frank, they we're of a shocking quality, so i complained to Merc. I took a phone call offering me a'full inspecton' of the car, free.
After nearly an hour, and atest drive, the inspector produced a report stating that the car had nothing wrong with it, no faults, nothing, infact it was in exceptional condition for its age. So i asked about the wheels, as it had 16" fitted as standard, that wasnt part of his inspection, and he wouldnt write a report about the wheels, this left a nasty taste in my mouth, so i complained again, and again. Now nearly two years old, the wheels looked as though they where 10 years old, and had done 100,000 miles, were in fact they had only done 16,000.
I sold the car with the original 16" wheels on, that where nearly 8 years old, and had covered 56,000 miles and where in mint condition.
Before i bought it, the car dealer who i parked-ex the Merc with for the RRS said about the wheels, 'i dont want them, they are Censored , put the orginals back on'. Now that speaks volumes.
So what do we do ? 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

I have to say this post is nothing but scare mongering.
Like somebody said above just because there cheap doesn't mean there of a lesser quality. Infact if you name the company on here I'm sure they could prosecute you for libel.
I've had a few cars with aftermarket wheels and they have been fine. Would like to see the response from team dynamics etc when you tell them their wheels are crap.

It's maybe true that some wheels shouldn't be used on a car if there load rating is too low, but thats upto the individual to choose whether they want to take that chance.

The issue is that most car owners/drivers don't know about load rating for wheels. Most probably don't even know about load ratings on tyres and they buy those much more frequently than they buy wheels (assuming they ever buy replacement wheels).

I knew about tyre ratings before I bought my RRS but wheel load ratings were not something I'd ever considered to be honest, until I came on to this forum. I've looked at aftermarket wheels (as a purely academic interest issue as I'll never be buying any) and I fear quite a lot of wheels that are sold as for 4x4 don't have the load rating necessary for a RRS. A guy at work has just bought a RRS and ordered some Hawke 22inch wheels. I think they're only rated to 815kg and were offered with cheap (although correctly rated) tyres. He's putting decent tyres on but I'm still not sure about the wheels...

If you buy from an apparently reputable supplier and you say the wheels are for a RRS you might reasonably expect them not to offer you something unsuitable. Certainly, if I was going to change my mind and buy some aftermarket wheels then I'd be asking, in writing, that the wheels were load rated for the RRS.

But, of course, you are correct that the buyer must always beware... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Think replica and after market are getting confused, aftermarket by reputable companies should be fine, but check anyway.

As for replicas, well these are companies copying others and why would you use them any way, think a tag replica watch is the same as a genuine one, would you get your misses a replica Gucci handbag ..??

So are you happy with copy wheels, or is an mr2 in a lamborghini shell something that you think is a good idea Whistle

Copies (replicas) are cheaper for a reason, design effort, and the "badge" aside.

And what is that reason?
That they are made with a lower quality? There's no evidence at all to support that, yes some bend/buckle/crack etc but then so do genuine ones.
Everything is made to a price, companies have to make money and I don't think land rover make there own wheels, they will be like most other parts, outsourced to another company, when they put the tender out to the different suppliers they would have to choose one that best fitted there needs with price/quality etc.
Do you know the price landrover buys there alloys at? Who's to say they aren't buying them in cheaper than what the aftermarket suppliers are selling them at!

It's quite funny looking at the price of components when it comes to cars, some people are really snobby when they are buying parts. When I owned my TVR I was in a forum where certain members would only buy genuine "TVR" parts from TVR suppliers even tho most of the parts where simply bought in from other cars, the rear lights for instance were off a fiesta and if you searched for them as TVR parts they were more expensive than if you searched for fiesta ones even tho its the exact same product.

I wouldn't agree they were totally different things.
A lot of aftermarket companies sell replica wheels making them the same thing?
