United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Bonatti Grey

I have just purchased a Talex (www.talex.co.uk) speed camera detector and this doesn't work in the Sport, due the wires in the windscreen. I doesn't really matter in my case, as I got it for my van anway, but it would of been nice to move it between vehicles.
The Talex did eventually get a signal of sorts, as it warned me of a dangerous junction/black spot (very impressive), but then I drove past three cameras in our local town and none of them were detected, yet in my van everything worked fine.
I guess in the Sport you can mount it up near the mirror (and they sent me the kit for that by mistake Laughing ) but the mounting kit is large and looks ugly, plus you then have a cable hanging down. Matt

Thanks for that info. That was close as I was tempted by the Talex. When I do this I'll have to go with the Angel that the dealer fits I think. TDV6 - gone

Does the wiring in the windscreen interfere with radar/laser detectors as also? Diego Paredes Fontanals

more than likely but not sure... depends on the frequencies. The spacing of the elements will let certain frequencies pass through and others not.

Just that some after-market sat navs will work and others will not.

I guess once I get mine I'll let you guys know. Unless there is someone out there that has tried it.

I used my radar today on an A6 and it worked perfectly. Diego Paredes Fontanals

You just either have to mount them high, near the mirror (where there is wire-fee 'blackened' glass) or use equipment that you can plug in an external antenna. Matt

or the side... there is a couple inch gap that has no elements. Gets wider further from the top edge.

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

This is all interesting stuff - my lowly SE doesn't have the factory fit satnav but I have a PDA with GPS and Navman routing program built in and that sits on an arm with a sucker sticking to the front screen just below the rear view mirror and I have no problem getting a good GPS signal through the heated front screen. The PDA also did good service in my last RR which also had a heated screen in the front. The company that sold me the GPS system warned me when I purchased it that they had customers who had a problem with heated front screens but neither myself nor my father who has a similar system have any problems. I don't understand why Road Angel GPS signals should be blanked out by the front screen as the signal is coming from the same satellites as my GPS system.

Paredes, my parents have an RV/motorhome and they use their PDA satnav in that (the beauty of a Tomtom or PDA system is it's portablity) but when driving south they had no problem with it in the screen..... driving north and away from the satellites they couldn't get a signal because of the bulk of the GRP body of the motor home. They got round it with a remote antenna that sticks on the inside of the rear screen on a sucker and has a bluetooth link to the PDA on the front screen. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

That's why yours works fine, it is near the mirror where you can get a good signal. The area behind the mirror (on majority of cars) is left free for GPS antennas. If you had it down on the dash the signal would be very poor. Matt

I Mark the speed cameras my self

1. Have your navigation screen on press on the display before the camera
2. A needle comes up in the lower end of the diplay press that.
3. When u stop the car go into navigation And choose marked places
Change the display from needle to sound it`s a with logo
Than it will bling everytime befor u come to the camera!

I managed to get speed camera data for my garmin palm top from http://www.pocketgpsworld.com it was free then, I think they charge now. Updated every month they say. Ended up not using it as there were so many points that the map scrolled too slowly.
