I used to run my G4 Sport on LPG before shipping it out here, covered 50k miles with it. Didn't have a flashlube kit as I took the approach of if the exhaust valve guides failed I'd have the uprated heads fitted by JE Engineering to cure it once and for all. To be honest I was never overly happy with the conversion, but doing 30k miles a year in the car it made a difference to running costs and I bought it already converted. If you're thinking of taking it to Morocco though I'd not be fitting LPG, but a long range fuel tank instead. Bear in mind they're not particularly frugal on LPG, I used to manage about 13-14mpg at best, whereas on petrol it was 19mpg.

Adaptive cruise (ACC) uses a separate system to the parking sensors. There's a "box" in the mid height radiator intake on the passenger's side which houses the radar.

Aaah, OK - I was under the impression (from the current owner) that it was the central parking sensors that caused it not to work.

I would guess the seller is well aware that the ACC module itself is broken somehow and hopes that the story about the parking sensors will ease the mind of potential purchasers - after all, a couple of parking sensors are quite cheap; the ACC module won't be.

A while back someone found that the ACC radar sensor mounting bracket (hidden behind the plastic housing you see from the front) had been bent down towards the road. Maybe that happened on this one when the bumper was off for the winch mounting - or then again maybe it really is broken! |

It was converted by a place near Newport in South Wales. The chap knew his stuff but hadn't converted a 4.4 V8 before so I'd say it could've been a better conversion. I'm sure with a better set up system I could've got maybe 15mpg, but it was forever chucking up the engine management light with the same fault codes, running rich or running lean. This is because the sensors are very sensitive and LPG trips them. Since taking the LPG system off, the light's never come back on. If you speak to JE Engineering they'll be able to explain why the light comes on. There is another chap who posts on here occasionally and gets very defensive over LPG'd D3's & RRS's, saying it shouldn't be an issue and all that's needed is a flashlube kit. I tend to disagree. Each to their own. I'll carry a couple of 20 litre jerrycans if I go out 'bush' here in Oz, longterm I'll likely go for a long range tank.
The original owner's been had by the dealer then. The ACC works fine without the middle 2 sensors, they have nothing to do with it working or not. As others have said here, the ACC unit sits behind the bumper and I'm guessing it's failed or isn't connected. As I understand, a fair few of the G4 cars had the ACC switched off on the Challenge, with some then needing £2k+ of warranty work to fix it when they were sold off, which entailed a fair bit of persuasion by the next owners with some of the LR dealers. The previous owner of mine was one of the persuasive ones so it worked when I bought the car. With mine, at my request the dealer tried to activate both the ACC & the parking sensors and it wouldn't have it, I could have either one or the other but not both.

They're pretty honest sellers on the whole and they have owned the car since 1,500 miles, so I would suspect they were fobbed off by the dealer when they bought it with the same reason they have given me and been none the wiser! The dealer will be refitting all the G4 accessories anyway, so will ask them to get it working before I buy it.

Should be the same on both model RRS G4 vehicles I believe!
So would you not recommend fitting an LPG kit to a 4.4 V8 then? I think that may be the case but will ask them to get it sorted. I wouldn't recommend fitting LPG no. Unless I was doing more than say 15k miles a year I don't think the payback and potential problems it can cause is worth it.

Ok so the owner took the G4 RRS into the LR dealer today and it seems the ACC control module is there but the radar bit is not, apparently because the winch interferes with the mounting bracket.
