Higher or lower mileage car?

Odd question perhaps, but hear me out. My budget of around £17k means I am looking at 2.7 TDV6 cars, generally with 70k+ miles on the clock.

Speaking to a dealer friend of mine the other day, he reckons they get a few problems around the 80,000 mile mark and thus suggested going for a higher mileage car which has had the problems already sorted. Sadly we were both tight for time so didn't get to discuss further.

So my question is, what are these problems he mentions and is he correct? Should I stick to my initial 70k/80k mile cars I am looking at or should I consider those with over 100k (which don't seem to be any cheaper!) but may have had work done to them.

Cheers!

I cant comment much, but I know there is a MAJOR service around 100k, so make sure you're not footing the bill, or have it factored into your price Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I think he is talking bo11ocks to be honest it all depends on how the vehicle has being treat, there has been problems with low mileage motors aswel as high mileage ones, nothing specific has gone wrong with any of them, there isn't a pattern emerging when they get to a certain mileage, if looked after serviced right warmed up and cooled down correctly then i'm sure they will be fine, but the problem you have is that you don't know how its been treated previously.

^^^ +1

There is no definitive breakdown mileage... some go wrong as little as 200.. one has gone to 400k+ before anything expensive failed.

Service history, receipts of work, and as Bean said..watch out for the 105k service RRS gone

Someone has managed 400,000 miles on an originakl engine? Impressive!

I have heard/read of a few occruance of cam chain issues requiring engine replacement when they let go, is this as common as it seems to be?

Also, what is involved in the 100k service that makes it so expensive - I assume this is when the body has to come off for some reason?

Cheers!

Character on Disco3 had done over 500k last time I checked.. with a new gearbox and torque converter being the only repairs

The 105k service involves all belts (inc cam belt) so pretty major RRS gone

As i have a 2007 and already had;
a new engine 93000 mile
a new transfer box 96000 miles
and now new front diff 97000 miles
maybe done now with aaa the expensive bits but be aware that these things
do go and if done already not so bad but if like mine seem to begoing all at once
may be worth avoiding but as before maybe just a bad one out of the bunch and was
a owned by a west brom player, so how could it be right, lol Rolling with laughter

make sure you test the hi/low box as lots of owners never engage low which can lead to problems
