Day time led's

Ok, ok, I know there will be a thread on here somewhere but.....why the he'll haven't Land Rover wired up my led's to be on all the time? It's obvious isn't it? Even my 2010 Lotus Elise which is hardly the most advanced piece of engineering in the world has daytime LEDs!

Someone tell me how to get them to stay on all the rime pllleeeaaasseeee!

Rant over, I thank you. Jaguar XKR Convertible

why would you want to be like the other idiots on the road with them....the longer we dont have to have them the better.

Incidentally its just a software option, but lets face it LED serve NO purpose...if you cant see the cars dont drive - if its dark...turn your lights on Mike

The LEDs in the headlights aren't DRLs, you need to spec those additionally for about £400 IIRC. Shocked
They look nice in the bumper, but havent seen any people with them fitted so assume the price it's most people off.

Like mse, I'm nt a massive an of them, anyway with the sensitivity of the RRS's auto lights, you'll find the headlights are on 95% of the time anyway Whistle Laughing

Here's the OEM option ones:

I'm guessing they're only available to people who know how apostrophes work! Rolling with laughter (Admittedly some people accept the use of an apostrophe in plurals but the cases where it is correct are limited and certainly don't include "LED's", "DRL's" etc.)

On a more seriously note, I've spent a fair amount of time disliking DRLs but have come, following recent heavy fog hereabouts, to the conclusion that they are useful. Why? They would provide some indication of the existence of the idiots who drive in daytime fog with no lights of any sort illuminated. Usually in grey cars. Usually Astras, Mercs, Audis or BMWs.

Of course, requiring an intelligence test prior to issuing a permit to drive would also be a good idea... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Jonathon,

As stated above the LEDs in the headlights aren't true DRLs, and IIRC James of LPR has said the same (James please correct if I miss qouoted you;) ).

Sport DRLs are located in the lower part of the bumper. OEM and Aftermarket versions are available. Basically, you pays your money and makes your choice...

Here's a picture of their location:

A couple of days ago i found out why that was when it happened to me for 2 minutes.

I had all the lights on, fog etc and clearly after 10 minutes whilst still very foggy it was bright enough to convince the RR that it didnt need to have the lights on and turned them off.

Also because it was bright and the screen is backlit i didnt notice and 50mph means the needle covers the green headlamp illuminator/warning

A quick manual override and we were away - but a few new modern cars i could see suffering the same - bright enough for the sensor but low enough vis to require full front and rear fogs.

So as much as most BMW owners are like hedgehogs - this one probably isnt them! Mike

Am I right in thinking that daytime lights will be compulsory soon? Also, why put such nicely designed LEDs on a light cluster if you are only going to have them on when your main lights are on?

I still don't think it makes sense.

I'd ban auto lights. You're driving; you should be conscious of conditions e.g. light levels and the need to turn lights on or not. Same with auto wipers. You're driving a potentially lethal machine - take some bloody responsibility for your actions/inaction. Don't rely on the car to think for you. Grrrrrrrr.

Great excuse: "I didn't have lights on in the fog because I had the switch set to auto and the car didn't think they were necessary".

Please pay your insurance excess and do not collect £200 on passing "go"... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Auto Wipers and Lights can be a good thing about - wipers ensure they are on just right for the conditions and ensure your focus is 100% on the road and not split between wipers and road, plus give you one less thing to consider.

Lights - thats time saving, they do no harm and mostly are on more than off - they are aids and dont remove your involvement just reduce your input

Most road users are not aware and not able to multi-task, they should try flying IFR single crew that will push multi-tasking and awareness Mike
