My recent purchase, a RRS 2.7 does 25 round town and 32 on a motorway run, my mate had a TD5 Manual and he got a bit less.... I also tow a 1500kg caravan, yet to try it but would be happy with 20mpg...... My last car did the same as my RRS. It was a 3.0 V6 CRD 300c Touring. Just glad to get 4WD, the 300c was rubbish even on wet grass! |

My 2.7 does 27.5 mpg on short runs between towns(never above 40 mph), and low thirtys at sensible motorway speeds. |

Thanks for the advice folks. I am not so concerned about the reduced space as the space in my Disco seems a bit excessive for me at the moment. The fuel economy seems much of a muchness, and ride quality will undoubtedly be a huge improvement with the RRS. My major concern is about reliability and the "significantly dearer" comment above....gulp! I have been pretty lucky with my Disco because apart from the annual service, not much has really gone wrong. I will certainly take out a warranty but I appreciate that these have their limits (and I do not want to provoke another warranty thread here!). As a legal beagle myself, the "wear and tear" provision in many warranties sounds to be an absolute get out of jail provision for the warranty company. How can one possibly argue in the case of any used vehicle over, say, 50,000 miles, that a component failure is not due to wear and tear?

I had a TD5 ES auto disco from new, I now run a 2.7 RR Sport, and yes the Sport is more economical by circa 4mpg.
