2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

someone I know with a Defender with a toe bar once got so Censored off being tail gated by a prick in a ford focus that he slammed on the brakes and ruined the front of the focus. The Defender was unharmed and the insurance sided with him.

They would have to side with the defender driver. Good job he saw the kid run out into the road and managed to apply the brakes in time.

The focus driver didn't see the kid as all he could see was the back of the defender due to driving too close!

England

@ jim4244 - Like Essexfarmer, I think there is a little part related to the RRS being your new pride and joy, I was exactly the same for the first few weeks when I got mine.

Last night saw me take it on a trip up to the O2 for an event and I have to say, I used the cars size to my advantage when trying to negotiate my way out in all the traffic. It appeared most people just got out the way fearing a big dirty 4x4 might knock into them (clearly not the case with my P&J Shocked ) but it doesn't hurt them to think that Laughing ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

So the guy caused an avoidable accident, yeah very bright of him Rolling Eyes

I can't say that I mind being tail gated, I'm too busy paying attention to where I'm going to care how close the person is behind me.

If the guy slammed on his brakes for no reason then the biggest proportion of blame is on him. Just because you are rear ended doesn't make it a clear cut to assign blame.
How would he have felt if he caused the other person health issues or even killed the person, 2 wrongs don't make a right

the wrong was driving like a prick behind him in the first place. Until then Defender man was just minding his own business. The focus driver was the aggressor in this situation, and was dealt with appropriately Whistle

Guy in the defender should have learned to drive properly and not acted like a w4nker and caused an accident.

In my opinion.

There is a saying: "only a c Censored t hits the car in front". This prnciple will have been applied by the insurance company and thus the Focus driver will lose the insurance argument. Every time.

If the Focus is too close to avoid the accident then he is DLAC anyway and will sooner or later have a big accident, probably with someone less well protected than the Defender driver was. Hopefully the Defender incident will have educated him sufficiently that he won't do it again and thus will not cause anyone else any anguish.

I've been very close to doing what the Defender driver did, I have to say. If someone is tailgating aggressively then they are being no better than a bully. And the best way to stop bullies bullying is to show them that they aren't the biggest fish in the pond (if you'll pardon my mixing of several metaphors). We're not allowed to drag them from their cars and bloody their noses. But we can hit their insurance renewal for several years. Thumbs Up

The wallet might be a more effective way to their little brains than a broken nose is anyway. Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

"Guy in the defender should have learned to drive properly and not acted like a w4nker and caused an accident.

see I disagree and think this highlights a bigger problem with society.

Defender guy is enjoying his drive when, for what ever reason, Focus guy decides to tailgate him (less than 1 meter), on a normal B-road, for miles. That is bad driving, and aggressive, and stupid.

Defender guy, quite controlled, slams his brakes on and hilarity ensues. Focus guy learns a lesson and won't drive like that again. Big sting in the pocket too. Lesson taught?

Yes the H&S brigade may cry foul about "what could have happened" but it didn't. An arsehole got taught a lesson and will modify his bad behaviour as a result. The same H&S brigade would be strangely quiet about "what could have happened" the next time Focus guy had tailgated someone and caused a real accident.

all my opinion, of course ============

Errrr no they won't, it depends on witnesses etc, that's a very common and and wrongly assumed myth.

@rrsboy surely the sensible thing to do would be slow down and let the focus past or just continued on his leisurely drive and concentrated on what was infront of him? It seems like it was the guy in the defender acting like the bully.

Less than a meter in a 60 for miles?

this is what my 'society' comment refers to - in what way is the Defender guy the bully? He did not create the situation, the Focus idiot did. Whistle ============

He "teaches" the guy a lesson by getting physical, albeit with his defender.
Would the defender guy have tried it if the guy was driving say a bus or an articulated lorry etc, I dont think so. The guy in the defender thought he was high and mighty and wanted to teach the guy a lesson.
Surely the bigger person would have walked away from the fight/conflict??

Like I said before I've never been tail gated, probably because I'm such an awesome driver and nothing can keep up with me Mr. Green

I can see your point of view and i do have some pet hates of my own(number one being 95% of women who stop at roundabouts when there is clearly nothing coming) but still disagree with the method.
