Afternarket Radio/GPS

I am wanting to replace the standard radio in my RRS with a radio/gps combo unit. To run offroad GPS system the unit need to have a Windows CE operating system.

I have been looking at buying this unit which seems to fit my requiremets.

I will need to but a replacement facia which are for sale on Ebay UK but I am not sure if I will have any issues connecting this system to the car systems.

I know that I will loose the clock in the command display. This unit seems to indicate it has two inputs for the steering controls but the wheel has three -mode, volume and channel up and down so I guess I will loose one of these. Do the steering controls go to the current radio via the CANBUS or direct to the radio.

If anyone has installed a similar radio - what were the issues you encountered?

Thanks

G'Day Garry

Stephen W (in Canberra ) did this here:

http://rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic6085.html?highlight=

There were all sorts of issues with regard to the function of the OE unit in the vehicle electronics.
In the finish he ended up with the original unit still connected but concealed in the back panel behind the small opening hatch cover.

Thanks for that - I know Stephen and last spoke to him about 3 weeks ago. Shame that link posted not longer has the pics and some other links active. I will discuss with him next time I see him.

I knew about the issue with the clock but not the other issues of the command centre. Why would those steering wheel controls go through the radio to provide input to the command display? Another example of making things harder than they need to be on this car.

Thanks
