England 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black
:censored: Magnet!

Well after a day of good weather I had the chance to get behind the wheel for a 100 miles or so.

Firstly, I am more than happy with my choice of vehicle! The car is an excellent drive and offers the benefits of all worlds when looking at handling, road holding, cross country ability, acceleration, along with a large dose of "Feel good factor"

What I did notice however is that a MY12 RRS is a " Censored magnet"

I have been tail gated along country roads by cars which were so close that I couldn't even see their front number plate in my mirror. This happened on 3 occasions over the period of around 45 minutes. Each time I was driving at the national speed limit (60mph) and the offending cars were what I refer to as old s**t boxes. On the third occasion I indicated left and slowed to a stop which resulted in the car behind having to reverse to steer past me!

I have also had some lane wonderers on dual carriage ways who manage to start drifting into lane 2 just as you are passing them. I won't even mention the poor roundabout procedures that I have come across today!!! Shocked

Oh.....and a 17 year old lad tried to race me in a 1200cc Citreon Saxo................ Confused

So.....tell me this guys - Is a RRS a " Censored magnet" or am I just being a little over sensitive when I drive my new car?

Jim

Got rear-ended last year by a too close Ford Galaxy when I had to brake sharply for a van that pulled out in front of me, result: one tow hook shaped hole in his plastic bumper Smile

I thought that the title suggested a different type of magnet that cars are quite often referred to as! Whistle

Tailgating and blind overtaking is the norm over here.....People genuinely travel 6-8ft behind you at 70mph
it has honestly taken me a year to get used to it....

The solution......is to not look in your rear view mirror unless necessary !!!

For you...my guess is you just had a bad day in your new car Thumbs Up 2014.5 SDV6 AB Dynamic ... Fuji /Santorini Pan roof and 22's

No Jim, you are not being over sensitive, It happened to me when my RRS was brand new and I mentioned it in one of my first posts on the forum Smile I don't notice it so much now, either I am used to it or more likely a dirty RRS does not stand out quite so much. Just forget about the a Censored s and enjoy your new car. 12MY RRS Orkney Grey HSE Lux

It is also worth remembering that because of the high position of the rear view mirror in a Range Rover relative to a normal car, combined with the length of the car and the high rear window that it does have the effect of making following cars seem closer than they actually are. That said, even with taking this into consideration, there are still plenty of Pillocks out there that do tailgate! I have actually also noticed that I get "brake tested" far more often when I am following another car than I ever did when I was driving a normal height car. Especially if my headlights are on. Clearly the size of the RRS in their mirrors makes it appear closer than it really is as well! Ah well, C'est la vie Rolling Eyes 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

I am sooo quoting this to my bro in law Laughing

But a lot of us have been in the military because we try to suppress it by doing the most macho thing possible"

If someone is tailgating you then the 'safe' thing to do (plus it p155es them off) is to drive slower.

If they are very close and you have to stop suddenly or brake hard there is a good chance they will hit you before they can react.

If you drive slower then you are compensating for the lack of distance between them and you Smile

Also, you can watch the frustration as they then attempt to over take you in their gutless 5hit box of a car and cant see 5hit as they are:

1. A RRS is a big block of a vehicle.
2. Which is made worse when they are driving up your 4rse
