OMG don't rely on ACC!!!!

Just thought I would check if the ACC system is what I hoped it would be in that the car would slow to a stop if the car in front did so also or was going much slower.

IT DID NOT!!!!

Must admit I've not read up on the feature so assumed it would stop.

Scared for a moment and very disappointed now!!

Or did I bottle it too early and apply the brakes too soon- don't think so though. TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx

United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Fuji White

It does not stopp the vehicle. It will slow it down to match the speed of the vehicle in front. It will not go below 15mph.

You will get some beeps and a message stating driver intervention required.

You will also get this same message if the system is required to slow down incredibly sharply.

Its meant as a way to safely follow the car in front in free flowing fast moving traffic. It is not like the collision avoidance systems that will bring the car to a complete stop.

Its a good job you "bottled it", otherwise you would have hit the car in front.. Embarassed RRS 3.0D HSE 11MY - Fuji White, a few extras.

England 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Baltic Blue

The ACC only has brake authority up to (if I remember correctly) about 0.6g and does not bring the vehicle to a stop...in other words it won't do a full on emergency stop. As the previous post says, it's a distance control system, not a collision avoidance system.

As you point out yourself, a read of the handbook is necessary. 2011 RRS HSE 3.0V6

Scotland 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 Autobiography Orkney Grey

I did the LR experience day and it was demonstrated , and I had a go too, that the car will do all of the above.

But! When there is a sudden slow down in front the ABS kicks in as well as the alarms and you get a rapid shuddering slow down to approx 18mph where you must take over manually.

I have it on my AB and it works exactly like this. Now - MY11 RRS Autobiography TDV6, Orkney gray, tints, steps, daylight running lamps and allllll the toys!!!
Ex- RRS HSE TDV6 07 Java Black, bi xenon, corner lights, side steps, tints, cool box, smoke side repeats, chrome "sport" boot sill

Yes, but it still only has authority up to 0.6g...the ABS will kick in if the 0.6g - or less - produces wheel lock through poor grip caused by water/mud/whatever. 2011 RRS HSE 3.0V6

I'm surprised that with a username like yours you've not read the handbook cover to cover and made yourself fully aware of all the facts and features Whistle Laughing ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
