4.2 supercharged or tdv8?

Hiya, I'm new to the site and looking to buy my first rrs, I'm down to a shortlist between the supercharged or the tdv8.
What's the main differences between them( I know ones petrol and the others diesel lol), do they have a different spec?
I know there's a lot of support on here for the tdv8 so expecting the obvious..... "tdv8..... That is all" replies.
I don't do a lot of miles, less than 10k a year so the mpg doesn't really bother me.
How much is the servicing cost for both?

Cheers

I think most people would say "if you can afford the petrol, go with the s/charged". The main benefit of the TDV8 is slightly better economy. It's got more torque too but that's probably only an academic interest.

Spec is pretty similar. Someone will be along in a mo to tell you actual sepc differences.

Ultimately, if you can afford to run either of them then it's going to be a choice between how the they drive for you. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Biased but go for the tdv8. The Supercarged is great but with a remap on the TDV8 thereviscenough power for the nearly 3 ton car. If you want out right performance go for an M3 or other exotic. Also I truly feel the TDV8 is so smooth you wouldn't know it's a diesel when being driven.

Also depends on how/what these sub 10k miles will be so will have an impact. TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx

Either the Speed 6 or V8 are great TVRS so with a car double the weight in the RRS I would go for the either petrol or diesel and just go for the best deal you can. My TDV8 still as a great V8 roar anyway.

Which way do you think you'll go? It's dead simple in one way 1. More torque than generated by the son or 2. BHP. TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx

I'm not sure which way to go yet, I want to try the supercharged one to see how it compares.
Is there a nice noise from them?
I think I will really miss the sound of my Cerbera, it sounds awesome Very Happy
The bhp figure doesn't bother me, I'm getting too auld to keep chasing the numbers lol

I have a Supercharged if the running costs aren't an issue it will put a smile on your face when you let the horses out, feel & hear that V8 go! Thumbs Up

When I was wondering which one to buy the TDV8 or the S/C (I knew I'd love both of them) But I also knew deep down that if I got a TDV8 I'd always be wondering how much faster the s/c would be? But maybe that’s just me? At 11mpg around town and 18mpg on a run the S/C isn't everybody’s first choice!

I'm sure that the TD will be more to service than petrol but you'll gain the difference back in mpg over the year I should think? The S/C was the best standard spec in the range although I'm not sure what it had over the HSE TDV8? The S/C will cost you less to buy like for like than a TDV8 when I bought my S/C there was a massive 10K difference between the price of the same year TDV8 and my S/C but that was a year ago! Personally I wouldn't even consider one with out a full main dealer service history these things will cost you if they haven't been maintained properly and buying one from a dealer (main dealer if possible) with a warranty would be a wise investment if you can afford too?

Other than that it's the best damn car I've ever owned and I have had more cars - big, small, fast and slow than I can remember! My next car will be the new 5.0ltr S/C - who needs to save for a pension anyway!!

Good luck and what ever you get remember to post some picture up so we can all have a look! Thumbs Up Cheers Laurence.

The spec's of the TDV8/4.2sc were very similar iirc

The only 2 things I can think of right now are

a: s/c got perforated leather
b: s/c also got exit lights (puddle lights if you prefer) under the wing mirrors in addition to the ones under the doors RRS gone
Audi SQ5...Gone Audi Q7 S-Line 240 3.0TDI Gone
Audi A6 Allroad Sport 270 3.0TDI

Most of the "which to buys" tend to be geared toward V6 or V8, which to me seems less of a close call (but I would say that).

But the TDV8 or s/c question is an intereting one. When I got my V8 I thought I just couldn't justify the mpg on the s/c. Since purchase the mileage I havev to do is much less, so with hindsight it wouldn't have mattered.

I have found myself wondering lately just what the 5.0 s/c would be like Shocked (but I know that's not what you're talking about here).

The TDV8 is a fantastic motor, with a lovely blub when idling and a great growl when you press the loud pedal. It certainly turns heads, but in truth I think all RRS do that.

There'll be no significant difference in spec between the two so it'll be down to the trade off between speed and mpg, which will come down to how much mileage you do.

They're all great from V6, to TDV8 to s/c and whichever one you buy you will only be left asking yourself, why did I wait so long to get this motor Question Have i got the busted controller?!?!!?

for me the TDV8 is insanely good not because of how fast it is for such a large car (it's fast but hardly sports car fast) but because of the noise and the torque.. it really picks up in the 50-80 range.

If you want fast, don't buy any RRS! The S/C is still 7 seconds to 60 which last I checked is slower than a hot Clio. But.. I wouldn't want the Clio!

Thumbs Up ============
2010 TDV8 HSE - ooo laa laaaaaaaaa
2007 TDV8 HSE - superb car and very reliable
============
2012 - dearly departed, sadly missed.. to return in late 2013 with a new TDV8!

ERR.... Who would want a bloody Clio !!

No argument here.... SUPERCHARGE all the way, insane car which just gets better and better every time you drive it.

Just finally figured out how to get the voice control to work properly, now it realises that i am not American.

The power in a V8 Super is just going to make you smile every day, push the pedal listen to the supercharger wind up and hold on for dear life, great car that just gets better.

But then i am a little Bias !! 2005 Rang Rover Supercharged
Loving every minute !

there can really be only one choice, get the TDV8 and then add a quad exhaust that gives a great noise when you put your boot down!

Try this one http://rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic25400.html (shameless plug)
