Auto headlights

With headlight switch set to auto my lights are coming on sometimes in bright daylight/sunshine, but when it dulls down they switch off, doesn't always do it, it's been in the garage and they can't find a fault, anyone experienced this or have any ideas of the cause.(it's not a dirty sensor as it does it when the cars just been cleaned as well)

Mine does the same, they come on at times I'd not expect, but it's been the same on all cars I've had, be they BMW, Audi or the RRS.
I think the sensors get fooled by bright sun and overcast weather sometimes. Confused ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

It's actually intentional. Most manufacturers set auto lights to come on when you are traveling away from bright light (I.e the sun is directly behind you) as it means that the drivers driving towards you (into the sun) can see you. I have no idea how this is achieved as the light sensor is at the top/middle of the screen as far as I'm aware?

Could well be connected to the mirror but I also seem to remember its main sensor is that plastic dome thing at the front of the dash Now - MY11 RRS Autobiography TDV6, Orkney gray, tints, steps, daylight running lamps and allllll the toys!!!
