New Prospestive RRS Owner

Hi - I'm currently contemplating going for a RRS or an X5. Driven the X5 but not the RRS, yet.

Anyone here owned both or driven both ? Opinions appreciated

Thanks

58, 09, 10.

Currently have a C Class C350 on a 10 plate & just come to the end of agreement. Before that had a 335dM Coupe & before that a 997 C2S . Just fancy RRS or X5 to chuck bikes in the back.

Alright then, I like the driving exeperience & I live in the rural countryside. Last winter we were snowed in & my Merc wouldn't even reverse off the driveway. The X5 was surprisingly sporty & didn't feel like it was an X5........ It isn't for a school run & it isn;t for off roading either.

All I meant was I was surprised by how small the boot on the rrs was.

But I can still think of a million reasons to get one over an x5, the biggest being the s Censored t eating grin i have all over my face every single time I drive it or look at my TDV8 when its parked up.

Can't imagine feeling that way bout an x5 Wink Have i got the busted controller?!?!!?

I'll get myself over to the RR dealer & take one out.

2nd comment about boot space and not being able to check a bike in - anyone recommend a bike rack?

I had an X5 for a few weeks, a spunky xDrive35d, it was brilliant. I find the RRS more fun to drive, but the BMW had cooler gadgets and better sat nav. I prefer the exterior look of the RRS. ============

As you might guess from my user name ive had an X5 in the past, 2 in fact. I had a similar quandary 6 years ago and ended up buying the X5 and each and every time I saw a RRS I cursed myself.

Will come down to your budget if you are buying an 05-09 RRS I think, given what you have had over the last few years, the level of finish and datedness of the interior may be a bit of a let down over that of the current shape X5. If your budget will stretch to a 2010MY (59 plate) or later then I would suggest there's no contest.... go for the RRS.

Storage wise they are similar, a decent bike rack will solve your issues or roof rack with tailgate steps.
Current shape X5 has been around for a while and I would suspect BMW have a new model in the wings for 2014 which will affect prices if thats a concern. Likewise I'd expect a new RRS in 2014.

Quite a few dealers will have stocked up on RRS expecting bad weather before the turn of the year, so id suggest theres a good few deals out there, If your looking for trade/retail figures on either car give me a shout

In my opinion, both the X5 and RRS are great cars and at the end of the day, it comes down to personal taste.

I have had many BMW cars and found them to be very good but the X5 has never done it for me. I love the design of the Land Rovers (having owned a Freelander 2 in the past and now an RRS TDV8) and much prefer them to the equivalent BMW offering.

At the end of the day, you will be happy with whichever one you go for but make sure you drive both before purchasing to help you decide which one "lights your fire" Proud owner of a 2008 TDV8 HSE.....and an Audi A3 2.0T DSG Cab and a Porsche 911 Turbo (Mercedes W208 320 CLK and Mercedes W124 E220 Estate now gone)

I recently bought a bike rack for my RRS, it's a tow bar mounted one and will take 3 bikes, although you can get 1,2,3 or 4 bike models depending on your needs.

Thule do some great ones, well built and sturdy.
Full range: http://www.thule.com/en/GB/Products/Bike-Carriers/Towbar

My one: Euroway G2

Cheapest place at the time was Tesco Direct Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
MERCEDES GL350 - Metallic Navy Blue w/Grey interior

GOING: BMW F31 335D MSport+ xDrive Touring
GONE: Land Rover Discovery 4 HSE - Stornaway Grey w/Black Interior (wish we'd kept it Banging Head )
GONE: BMW F10 520D MSport - Carbon Black

when we were looking for a 4x4 we went to look at, what i consider the four main contenders.....
Audi Q7
Range Rover sport
BMW X5
Porsche cayenne
and we ended up buying the Audi Qugly, had that for 6 weeks and then someone run up the back of us resulting in it being off road for a fortnight.
we were given as a courtesy car by the insurance company a RRS TDV8 4 weeks later we part ex the Qugly for a RRS and never looked back the more you sweat in practice
the less you bleed in battle
