cheers for the fast reply Nick, he had me worried saying that I'd end up with black paint on the pad the more you sweat in practice

they all have a lacquer layer, this is why you can polish out scratches that aren't finger nail feelable

I agree.... But not with the point about not being able to damage paint with a da.... Use a harsh compound and polishing pad and you could go through clear coat. Always go with a mild polish and work your way up... |

That's why lots of people shy away from rotarys, because the implied aspec of a DA is that it's hard to damage your paintwork, unless of course you throw it at your car!! |

I've had a DA for a few years now and it's definitely harder to damage the paint with one, but as said above, use an aggressive pad and polish combo and you can still wreck the paint (I've not done that by the way )

DA's are bloody hard work though!! If you like to be shaken, go get one....it takes it out of you!!! Get a lesson or two on a rotary or practice on your mrs car |

I tend to only do a couple of panels at a time so not such a worry, but agree, they do wriggle a bit

santa bought me the Meguiars G220 v2 Dual Action Machine Polisher to give it, it's full name, have only used it for approx 2 hours and have not felt unduly shaken by it at all, which may be due to the fact that i use grinders and petrol cutters at work
