Top Up

Evening everyone,

Checked my oil today, it's a MY12 Sport and it was showing just over halfway after 2.5k miles. According to the handbook Land Rover "recommends" Castrol oils, but I cannot find a Castrol oil 5w-30 with WSS-M2C934-B on the side. The oils stating that specification seem to be Shell (Helix).

What does everyone use for a top up or is it O.K. to use any 5w-30? With past Audis most manufactures show the VW specification on the side.

Cheers

Scotland 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 SE Santorini Black

I checked with the service dept what oil they put in, and it was shell helix, so have been putting that in ever since!
As long as it is same viscosity and type( semi synthetic I think) it will be fine
Cheers

Good question. Oil half way up the stick would be about right. I'd monitor it on a weekly basis and see if it drops at all - which it really shouldn't on a new car.

It doesn't need to be at the top of the stick. Mid way is fine. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Was the oil still hot from a run or cold? Check after 15 to 20 minutes after a run not say next morning. Synthetic oils quite a bit so checking level with a cold engine could result in overfilling which is worse than being a bit low.

Helix is the name for a range of oils, so make sure you buy the correct spec of low SAPS oil i.e. this one

Good point TDV8HST, I'd forgotten about that.
