Transmission Fault

Hi,
On the way back from airport this morning, I saw an 'F' on the gear display and a message saying 'Transmission fault, limited gear selections'. I eased on the pedal to get home and switched the car off. After 1.5 hours, I started the car and drive around, everything seemed to be OK. There's no 'F' nor message.
Anyone experience this before, or any suggestion of what wrong (going to be wrong). Thanks.
Oh, its 2005 TDV6 HSE Auto and done 80KM.

A battery that's on its way out can throw spurious messages/faults. How long had the car been sat at the airport? How old is the battery? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Just take a friend to the airport, parking for about 2 hrs. The battery is about 2 yrs old. the alternator is changed 3 weeks ago. the car seem drive perfect as normal as I try driving all afternoon.

Strange then. I have had fault messages appear and, on turning off the engine and restarting they disappear. It appears to be a RRS thing... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Just wondering if its time for changing transfer and gearbox oils. I've changed both front and rear diff. oils, timing belt , also blanked off EGR in the summer.

i had a problem like this years ago,not a range rover but auto.! problem seemed to be a faulty or sticky valve in the auto-box thats was ment to close when at high speeds on fast roads like motorways, but when around town fault went away as presure was not high or something so was ok.! was a costly job,if had it done but got rid of car.! my advice is do a fast run again and see if problem comes back.? if not then maybe just a glitch.!!

Don't believe in the' Sealed for Life' thing, it's better to change it after such milages. Although, it's not easy I believe.

Mark - have a read of some of the posts on the Disco site for stories about changing the oil and dropping the sump. Quite an involved process if you want to try and swap the oil 100% but obviously pays dividends for some.
