Newbie with an ACC problem?

Picked up my s/c RRS on Wednesday, and I love it! Much more fun than my l322...
However, I have a problem, and I don't really want to take it the 60 miles back to the dealer to sort if possible and be deprived of my car for 24 hours!
My ACC only seems to work at about 30 yards or less with lorries, and doesn't seem to work at all when following cars? I have plugged in my OBD tool, which is giving a code of P0579 (Cruise control multifunction switch A input error)
My guess is that the acc module is pointing way too high, hence only picking up on lorries? (when it does detect a lorry in front at about 30yards it brakes pretty hard!) OR does anyone have any other ideas? I have looked at the module on the front grill and all feels pretty tight to me?
I guess I might need to take the bumper off to get a proper look, but I'm a bit reluctant to start pulling it apart after only owning it for a couple of days...

I would be really grateful for any help or ideas?

Thanks Phil

P.s. great forum by the way, I have been reading for hours tips and tricks etc! Really liked the seatbelt buzzer disable! Much less annoyed now!

Thanks for your reply Mr H, but Yes, i have got it set at the logest setting, and the buttons do adjust properly as the indicator changes properly on the dash. Also the forward warning comes on very late when in slow traffic - about 10 feet away when on the longest setting?
(I have read the manual again, as I thought I might be doing something stupid, but I don't think so!)

sounds like the acc module on the bumper is faulty, unfortunately trip to dealers for a new one.

potentially the ACC sensor needs realigned - bumper off.

Ours is pointing directly down and so does not work. Never got round to getting the bumper off to align it...

My ACC sensor didn't work at all when I got my RRS. It's a very simple and easy job to get the bumper off to have a look at your sensor. It could be that it has moved on it's bracket (you wouldnt be able to tell this with the bumper on). If it turns out to be in the right position then it sounds like it's faulty, have a look on ebay, I picked up a new sensor for £220 and fitted it myself in 50 minutes including a test drive...landrover wanted £1,600 for new sensor and fitting, but then they also wanted £185 just to remove the bumper and have a look!!

Thanks Leigh, I might have a go at it today. My local dealer told me they wanted 3 hours to get the bumper off and on again?!! Is it that easy? I have little knowledge of mechanics but I am capable of working a screwdriver! As I said earlier, it is throwing a fault code, so would it do that if it was just a misalignment issue?

Thanks for you help, I'll go and read your other posts now. Range Rover Sport Supercharged

It really is as easy as those instructions, once the lights and grill are off its 6-8 screws along the top and bottom, one in each arch, unhook the arch and slide it off!

With regards to the fault code, I'm afraid i can't be much use! Once I removed my bumper I found my unit pointing at the floor and had previously had a crack in the back of the unit repaired with duck tape....so it was full of water, didn't take much to work out no matter how long I left it in the airing cupboard it wasn't going to work again! LR Defender 90 - gone

LeighG, thanks so much for your advice, I finally got round to having a go today, and it really is easy. Also took me about an hour to remove and refit! Only snag I had is that it took me about 10 minutes to get the first light out, as when you pull up the tabs, they actually come up too far, and you need to knock them back in a couple of mil to locate the hole over the pin correctly to get them off. (might help someone else if they are struggling!)

Can't believe my local Stealer wanted 3 hours to do this! They would have probably charged me for a new unit as well....

Turns out that it looks like the previous owner didn't like the ACC, so bent the mounting bracket down about 15 degrees so that it was pointing at the road, not ahead! (I assume that ACC worked close up on lorries due to reflected 'waves' off the road!)
The ACC is now working perfectly, but I havent checked yest to see if there is still a fault code - I am assuming not as it is working fine!)

Again, thanks so much for your help, really appreciated!

I love the ACC, I really do. There are a lot of... luddites... who insist that the RRS should have a traditional cruise control option too.

Would be nice to have the option to turn it on or off, but driving it today with a fully operational ACC was great. Brilliant on the motorway - if not to busy with people lane hoping into the gap the system leaves.. Range Rover Sport Supercharged
