Suspension problem - RRS 2008

Hi all,

Today while driving home in my 2008 RRS TDV8 the red suspension light came on telling me to slow down and stop the car ASAP. After doing so and manually adjusting the suspension height I noticed the front lowers at a lower speed than the back - Am I looking at new front suspension or could this just be a leak somewhere?

Thanks,

Jon

Check the 4X4 display see if there are any warnings, above each wheels, there is a little green incdictor which shows red when there is a sensor fault.

I did that and it shows no errors but when I look back to the instrument cluster the suspension indicator is solid red and no longer flashing (I take it that's worse?)..... Is that really bad or minor if the instrument panel says error but the 4x4 screen says al is fine? I took the car out just now on a 100 mile trip and I got no errors come up in away way.....

It goes in for its 3 year service next week so I'm sure they can tell me but I'm keen to know what I'm looking at now....

Thanks,

Jon

Fixed it; the suspension fluid was low and just needed topping up.....

Thank god!

Cheers,

Jon

suspension is a sealed unit, only fluid is in the hydraulic ARB as far as I'm aware, leak the OP talks about is an air leak

Ok,

Where do you check the level for the hydraulic ARB?

On my RRS (2008 TDV8) the bottle for hydraulic fluid or whatever you want to call it was front left of the engine bay as you open the bonnet (just as x5pea noted).

When I checked, it was right down by the minimum line and thus when I was driving and going round corners it was setting off the suspension light on the dash which is usually really bad news - (fingers crossed that's the end of my issue now).

Thanks,

Jon

jon,

unless its not been serviced for a while, you will prob find that you have a leek from the ARB. Easy to notice if you park in the same spot at home as a few drips will apear on the drive way. Failing that put a bit cardboard under the car or somthing.

Id keep an eye on it, its a very expensive fix as most dealers will quote a chassis off to do the job, on the positive side land rover only approve them to charge 3 hrs

I spoke to soon!

I looked under the bonnet today after work, and the 'dynamic response fluid' bottle was showing at just over max (yesterday it was just under minimum ). After I adjusted the suspension height and checked the said bottle again it was WELL below the minimum line, quite odd.

That wasn't all. After putting the suspension up and down a few times the 'dynamic response fluid' didn't change (still very low) but the front suspension started to slow (so the back rose a lot quicker than the front). After a few more button pushes the front suspension wouldn't raise and stayed at the lower 'access' level.

What is wrong?

It's going in Monday for service etc but its bothering me.

Thanks,

Jon

Thanks,

Jon, after reading all your posts, I am quite bewildered!!

Dynamic Response and the Air Suspension are not the same.

DR is designed to eliminate/reduce body roll during cornering.

The DR system uses two accelerometers to detect vehicle cornering forces and inputs from the steering angle sensor to supply data to a dynamic response control module. The control module then operates solenoid valves in a valve block which apply hydraulic pressure to actuators fitted to the front and rear stabilizer bars. The application of hydraulic pressure to the actuators applies a specified amount of torque to the stabilizer bars to counteract the cornering forces and minimise vehicle body roll.

The DR system is electrically and hydraulically operated and the system comprises front and rear stabilizer bars with integral actuators, two accelerometers, a control module, a hydraulic pump, a valve block and a fluid reservoir. For your information the dynamic response system is entirely automatic in operation and you cannot influence it in any way! Cool

Now on the suspension system...

The dynamic suspension system is a four corner air suspension system which is fitted as standard to all models and this system is electronically controlled by an air suspension control module which controls the air supply unit, reacts to inputs from four height sensors and distributes air around the system via valve blocks.

The four corner air suspension system maintains the vehicle height under all operating conditions by controlling the mass of air in the air springs. The air suspension control module uses signals from the four height sensors to maintain the correct suspension height. This is achieved by operating pneumatic control valves to increase or decrease the mass of air in the air spring damper modules. Smile

By the looks of it you are mixed up with these two very different things.

Why you have to put the suspension up and down repeatedly to "change" the 'dynamic response fluid' is anybody's guess!! However, by doing so you have overheated the whole air suspension system, hence the sluggish operation!! Laughing

And please RTFM!! Wink Malaysia Boleh!
