My sport has started making a loud screeching type sound when trying to apply the EPB.

It happens intermittently and after a few attempts switching EPB off and on it Serbs to be ok.

Anyone have any idea what could cause this ? Could it be dirt or grime ?

Is this something that needs a dealer to look at or a good independent ?

Any suggestions are welcome.

Seems to be a common problem Mine does it intermittantly and applying the brake whilst moving seems to cure it. I think it is either dirt in the brake which gets compressed (especially when left on whilst car is parked) or mis alignment. I was told about £200 to clean the brakes, but the dealer thought that it probably wasn't worth doing this until the pads needed replacing.

same problem on mine has been cured by cleaning out the park brake drums (which was done under warranty). The technician advised that re-setting the drum after removing it is a difficult process, without the correct tools, to get right and should only be attempted by the dealer. He did show me, however, the holes in the sides of the rear hub/park brake drum which can be used for regular flushing of the brake drum with pressurised water to keep it generally clear of dirt build up...... a necessity if you use the vehicle for offroading in muddy or sandy environments.

Don't forget to dry the brakes out afterwards to prevent buildup of corrosion.

Don't wait! Get it looked at or you could damage the EPB actuator which is a heap of money to replace.

Have the rear EPB shoes replaced (possibly with the disks) and the whole lot adjusted. Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

I had this on my 57 TDV8 RRS; a god awful screeching sound with no warning, when i applied the EPB. This happened on three occasions and was worse each time. The fourth application and i thought the back axle had broken in two . The noise was horrendous. A call to the dealer and i was advised to get the car in pronto. All fixed in two days under warranty, thanks TH White - another 'well known problem'...not to me it wasn't! No problems at all after that - but as Martin said best get it looked at quick.
