Diff-Lockers

Given the problems with retro fitting an e-diff, does anyone know the pros and cons to fitting an air locker on the rear diff or both front and rear diffs and how the traction control would handle that kind of 3rd party traction control? 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6

I asked Ashcrofts if they had any intention on making a locker for the RRS/D3 - they said not at this time.

There are other landrover products that have traction control and diff locks and there are no issues so the RRS should be no different. The systems detect wheel spin relative to the other wheels and activate DSC and TC etc - if the diffs are locked then the wheels on the same axle are rotating at the same speed so no spin is detected and TC will not activate.

I am sure that if you had an old diff, you could take it around the various makers and see who had the closest diff lock and modify it to fit - I had to do that with an ARB air locker to fit the front diff of my FC 101 - but in that case the locker was made for a very similar diff.

The other option (which may not be all that doable) - why does the RRS/D3 OEM have to be "car system controlled" - the OEM locker is controlled by the computer to lock/unlock etc - well why not just not include all that computer stuff and manually control the OEM diff lock - after all it is just taking electrical impulses from the computer - as long as you have the controlling solenoids (which I think are on the side of the locker diff) and manually control them. I actually think this would be the best option but again you need a locker diff to see what can be done.
