05/06 Second Hand RRS Advice

Hi Guys, my first post as i'm looking to buy a RRS supercharged 05 or 06 model.

Essentially its the only years I can afford with our current financial commitments so we are limited in choice.

It will be my wifes daily driver as we have a new bub and it also has to perform the boat towing duties (1300kg's) when needed.

So I have a couple of questions:

Is there much difference/upgrades between the 05 and 06 models?
Would there be any siginifcant reasons to go for a later model 07 or 08?
Reliability debate aside, whats the gotchas on these models once you've got 100km on the clock?

I've also heard people talking about RRS "options" and how some dealers peddle them as "options" when really they where standard on that model.
I beleive Dynamic Response is standard on the superchared?

The other option is here in australia I can buy a brand new Disco 4 for almost the same money as a second hand sport but I dont like the look of the Disco 4 and I know its an offroad
beast but I dont plan on doing any off roading period.

would love to here peoples options.

Cheers guys,

Calis

I've not driven one but all the reports say that the Disco 4 is a VERY good car. If you can get one of them new for the same price as an 05/06 RRS, I'd be going for the D4 every day of the week. Over here, an 05/06 RRS would be about half the price of a D4.

C, be interesting to look at what you are spending, to be honest a good 2007 TDv8 for about 66K rather than a SC would be the way to go in Sydney to be honest and I do not think you would be disappointed by its performance. If it as the Nav on the 2007 then all the better

2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

if finances are tight then I would caution owning anything out of warranty

suspension faults: £3,000+
gearbox faults: £4,000+
supercharger faults: £2,500+

etc ============
2010 TDV8 HSE - ooo laa laaaaaaaaa
2007 TDV8 HSE - superb car and very reliable
============
2012 - dearly departed, sadly missed.. to return in late 2013 with a new TDV8!

70K will get you a decent TDv8, look for one with extended warranty, the SC badge on a older model will just cost you a whole lot more in maintaining . TDv8 is no slouch and more practical and you most probably will LESS LIKELY not be cursing yourself in 6 months due to expensive bills and running costs

"p.s. the TDV8 does have a nice V8 rumble even though its an oil burner"

haha thanks Zilch thats good to know.
running costs wise its part of the business so fuel/basic running costs arent an issue. obviously large repairs cost and ex warranty is esesntial for those.

I'll keep looking around.

Can anyone comment on the dynamic stability in the SC? I believe its an option on all other models?
in other words is it worth it?

The TDV8 has more torque for towing your boat too, you probably wouldn't notice the boat on the back either Thumbs Up

2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Santorini Black

I had a rrs sc 2006 - great car when its working. It does have dynamic response - its supposed to lean into corners etc. Seems to work quite well.

You will need deep pockets if things go wrong though.....and for parts that aren't available in Aus, you have to wait for them to ship from the UK. Customer service from Land Rover is pretty pathetic, given the price tags on the cars, so don't expect any love. (LR needs to take some notes from BMW imho)

You can pick up a supercharged sport from $60k - $70k with anywhere from 70km - over 100,000km on the clock
I'd avoid the 2005 as the initial models always have problems, which are usually sorted out in the next year's release. Definitely check service history before buying.

No real advantage in going for the 2007-2008, other than they may have fewer kms on them. I held on to my 2006 until I was ready to buy a 2010, due to the 5L engine upgrade in the 2010s.

Good luck !

thanks for all the feedback...mostly constructive Smile

So in a nutshell:

1. Running costs such as fuel etc are high.
2. Repairs and parts replacement costs a bomb!
3. TD prob better for towing/tourqe.
4. Warrenty a must no matter what model.
5. if possible stay away from first gen model.

All those issues aside that Im assuming you all love your RRS or you wouldnt have one! Cool

Anyone car to share thier brief reliablility stories?
