Does the part itself not have a warranty? I know I had a 'clock spring' replaced on my sport during the second years warranty (still with CarCare who underwrite the Landrover approved scheme but provided by Inchcape - covered most major things thankfully) which failed earlier this year. As it was within 12 months of the part being fitted the failure was covered by the warranty on the individual part.

They say no. if it was replaced under warranty it does not recieve 12 months cover if thte warranty expires prior to this not a happy chap but what it looks like is the reason the dealer will not do it is they fixed the compressor and said it was replaced therefore they cant go vback are re place it as its 5 years old not 8 months old. |

Irrespective of warranty I would think you have a fair claim under consumer law - it was clearly not of merchantable quality, or fit for the purpose. |

true but I feel I may have burnt bridges as far as LR is concerned when I got the head of customer Services home phone number and called him re my rangie when it spent 6 months in the dealers as they tried to fix a fault just getting stone walled even asked for a gesture of kind and I would fit it but no joy. to be honest i dont rate LR's quality of dealer workmanship I know all the dealers over here have a terrible reputation, and the laugh is the best one is the independant BLRC. an amazing bunch of guys. |

Which? magazine is always carrying stories about people who claim under the sale of goods act (or whatever its called) for products that fail outside the warranty period. In your case you're still inside it so the case is even stronger.

thats clearly not what the op is saying! he is saying the part is still covered by some form of warranty, ifnthe part is expected to last considerably more than 8 months, then the part should be replaced, labour would still be chargable, but not the part. here is what to do, send them a letter stating your requirement, ie new or refurbished part for free fitted at the standard rate, failure to do this will result in you claiming for the cost of the item via small claims, state the price of the part, they will ignore it, then go online at the small claims website and fill in the forms, cost you £35. if they are 100% sure about there position, argue it out in court, chances are for the cost they will just tip up. I have spent many a £35 to get things done, nowt like court papers landing on your door step to make people realise your serious. |

Where? He doesn't even have it serviced at a LR dealer. I'm not even sure he actually says the new compressor was fitted at a LR dealer: it may have been...but it doesn't say that. An independent removed the 8 month old compressor and said it had had a rough life. What's that mean? 2011 RRS HSE 3.0V6 2011 Freelander HSE 2.2d Auto Gone...2010 RRS V8 HSE |

obvioulsly have never heard of a warranty then it a thing you buy ad considerable cost to guard against this. I have paid my £700 pounds for an extended warrenty and the part is 8 months old. May need to take a refresser reading course... or i could put it towards the obvious lack in our education system lol! I have a page stating compressor replacement 8 months ago but the fact was the compressor was fixed not replaced as they said so they spent £20 on it replacing seals etc instead of £317 so obviously pocketed the rest now it has failed and they will not stand over it as they now say it was fixed not replaced. even though it was in need of replacing. |

I did demand a replacement as I paid my £700 for extended warranty. and it was fixed. had I known they fudged it I would have not collected it or i would have gotten a 12 month cover on the part as guarentee. obviously a claim for a £300 part was made and a seal kit was fitted which cured the problem for a few thousand miles. I do not go to the dealer as I feel in my experiance that the dealers are unable to work as mechanics and are more fitters as every time it has gon in they have either damaged her or not refitted parts properly th elist goes on. I get eh specialist to work on her maintenance wise but WARRANTY work is dealers only.
