Those of you with the keyless system !

Go get in your car, start it up & take the key back in doors, go back out, get in the car & drive away ! !

It's just happened to me.....salesman has just driven off in a prospective purchase and I had the fob in my pocket. 08 2.7 RRS "S"

True it does this, but once you stop the engine you cannot restart it.

It is a poor system though. It can clearly detect when the key is out of range so LR could easily have programmed some sort of safety feature in to it to either cut the engine immediately or perhaps after
a few minutes unless the key is brought back in range, or alternatively, not allow gears to be drive activated unless the key is in range but still allow the engine to be left running. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Completely agree.............bit lazy of them

You could jump in your car, start the engine, nip back in the house, put your key down, drive 100 miles then turn off engine and oops...........wheres my key?

I'm willing to bet that exactly this has happened to someone...... now, whether they'd admit it is another thing! Laughing 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Apparrently it happens regularly at dealerships when people are taking their new cars away - I had to sign a document at LPR stating that I was taking away both fobs! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The one reason is doesnt cut out is safety, imagine, you jump out of the car and your wife drives off - she is just pulling onto the busy main road when "No key - Engine Deactivated" message appears and the car is now isolated in the middle of the road.

I agree an anti drive off feature would have been good eg - it can run but not driven Mike

I do exactly this on my BMW in the winter. Leave the car running, lock it up and come back when it's warmed up!

2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Galway Green

I borrowed my mums Renault a few years ago as I needed a hatchback to pick something up and I did the same thing. For some reason my dad started the car to move it on the drive, then left me to drive it away. I got all the way to Comet, stopped the engine, then realised I didn't have the key to lock the car or to start the car to drive back. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award
