To Blank or Not To Blank, That is the question?

Hi Guys
Let me pick your brains and ask your opinion.
I have a 2006 2.7 TDV6, is it worth blanking of the egr valves? i have read quite a few forums and there does not seem to be quite a differance of opinion.
Also is there a way of cleaning them out yourself, as I am quite a dab hand with a spanner and socket set.
There is nothing wrong with my beloved RRS , Iwas just wondering if it was worth doing?
Thanks
Colin

Actually i'd also be interested in whether this is worth doing. Any opinions folks? RRS 2.7TDV6 HSE, Zermatt Silver....no mods...yet!
Porsche Boxter 2.7, Lapis Blue (Gone & missed)
Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0, silver (gone and in a masochistic way, still missed...but i should know better)

I have a Tdi300 TDi engined Defender that was delivered in 1996 with a cat when they were an optional extra. When the downpipe corroded and the cat was not working well the local non-franchised LR specialist I use advised non-replacement of the cat and removal and blanking of the EGR as leaving them in can cause problems with the ECU later down the line. So Cat was removed, EGR removed and blanked and the Lamba probe was removed result was a smoother running (does that matter in a Defender?) quieter engine and better mpg as the engine can breathe better, so if you have them removed take everything out and disconnect the electronics to save weird electrical problems with the ECU still thinking there is a a Cat and EGRs and it sails through the MOT with ease on the emissions front too 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Did mine couple of months ago. Now smoother 1-2 mpg more better pick up. Cost for kit from bells autos and fitting at garage just over a £100. One EGR valve replacement way more than that.

Viewed it as something that will fail sometime, so did it at my convienence.

It Finally Happened!!!

Last night my Beloved RRS gave me the reduced power and dreaded black smoke!!!!
Took the plunge and blanked off my EGR Valves by making plates from stainless steel I had lying in my shed!
What a difference!!!! It was like driving a different car!
So in answer to my questio "to blank or not to blank"?
Is blank the Censored , don't hesitate just do it, you won't regret it

Did mine just over a month ago and have to agree with the above.

Just do it, not even worth thinking about, took me just over an hour to do myself.

Cheers,

Andy

Just a reminder for everyone reading, EGR blanking without error lights is only possible on 2006 model year and earlier TDV6s. 2007MY onwards are Euro 4 emissions standard which mandates the illumination of an error light when there's no EGR flow Sad Like this site?
