I have a Tdi300 TDi engined Defender that was delivered in 1996 with a cat when they were an optional extra. When the downpipe corroded and the cat was not working well the local non-franchised LR specialist I use advised non-replacement of the cat and removal and blanking of the EGR as leaving them in can cause problems with the ECU later down the line. So Cat was removed, EGR removed and blanked and the Lamba probe was removed result was a smoother running (does that matter in a Defender?) quieter engine and better mpg as the engine can breathe better, so if you have them removed take everything out and disconnect the electronics to save weird electrical problems with the ECU still thinking there is a a Cat and EGRs and it sails through the MOT with ease on the emissions front too 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Did mine couple of months ago. Now smoother 1-2 mpg more better pick up. Cost for kit from bells autos and fitting at garage just over a £100. One EGR valve replacement way more than that.

Just a reminder for everyone reading, EGR blanking without error lights is only possible on 2006 model year and earlier TDV6s. 2007MY onwards are Euro 4 emissions standard which mandates the illumination of an error light when there's no EGR flow Like this site?
