Forgive my ignorance, but having had a variety of Discos and Defenders, I am about to buy a 59 plate RR Sport with the new dash. What is slightly confusing that with the new model there are 3.0 TD V6 engines and TDV8 also. At similar money. There are also 60 plate TDV8s also. The local dealer said the TDV8 had been supplanted by the TDV6 so TD8s no longer are being manufactured.
So, would it be better to to buy a V8 diesel at similar money/or if not why not?

Welcome to the forum. There has been some discussion on here in the past about this very subject. Apperently the new 3.0V6 puts out around the same performance figures as the TDV8 with better fuel economy and emmisions. However, that being said it has also been mentioned that it just dosnt have that V8 grunt/midrange pull.

The 3.0 tdv6 is alot closer to the tdv8 than the 2.7 was.

There is still slightly more low down punch with the 3.6 RRS gone
