Which RRS Diesel to go for ??

Hi All,

Just popped over from the D3 Forum to say HI

We're thinking of changing our BMW 330d for a RRS. Had a 3.0 TDV6 last year while D3 was at dealers (again) and was mightily impressed.
Our budget is £30-35k and I don't think there is many 3.0 versions for that price but quite a few older V8 3.6TD's.

Is the V8 TD worth consideration? I know performance is similar to the newer 3.0TD but just wondered if its a bit of a white elephant or whether its the one to have?

Any feedback appreciated. Thumbs Up

Andy

2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

I tried a couple of the new 3.0 diesels, but wasn't blown away.

I've had a TDV8 for about 9-10 months now, and even though I love the interior of the new one, I just don't like the engine enough to give up my TDV8.

Have a look at an early new shape TDV8 if you're budget can stretch to just over £40k, other than that wait till September when the new baby Range starts hitting the streets and the forecourts are flooded with cheap old shape TDV8 at bargain prices.

Just my thoughts..... and you'll have another loads of older RRS hit the market when the new 8 speed gearbox and minor mods start appearing in the new RRS 2012 update.

Cheers RRSBoy for the link above, sounds quite conclusive.
I thought they had stopped producing the TDV8, have they?

How does mpg compare between the TDV8 & 3.0 TDV6?

i really like the TDV6 and dont miss the tdv8 (although i only ever borrowed one). For a real V8 personally it would have to be 5.0SC otherwise the TDV6 is just as good Mike

if you've never owned a TDV8 then a TDV6 is a great car. If you have owned a TDV8 then a TDV6 won't cut it. The sound, the response, the package.. all "lacking" just enough to annoy you. Although the 3.0L V6 is a big step up from the 2.7.

MPG around 29/30 on the motorways and 24 around town. Because I like to drive.. enthusiastically.. I get around 18 on average altho the lady gets 26 with ease.

I bought one of the last examples before the silly EU laws meant that had to stop making them. Fingers crossed the new full fat 4.4 TDV8 gets fitted although they claim it's too big... ============

ive gone from the 3.6 TDV8 (FFRR) to the 3.0l TDV6. (RRS)

Whilst initially you miss the grunt and roarrrrrr that the v8 gives out. You suddenly become accustomed to the calming effects of the v6.
Whilst people will tell you that it the v6 is inferior blah blah blah. I find that if you drive well, it is un noticable. Well unless you are trying to over take something ballsey. In that case thats when the intelligent driver will just use the command shift or paddles and gear down accodringly to hold revs more, thus producing more power.

Whilst the V6 may be more economical on paper. I am running on 21mpg. Which to be fair I do have a very heavy right foot.
I think for those that have taken the new v6 out on a test drive you will notice that the other features on the RRS now outweigh the lack of V8. Such as the Dynamic response and improved cabin design.

I am enjoying driving the new 3.0 V6 as it really does chill out your driving style and lets face it, the car is definitely one for cruising around calmly in. Although it will still perform and reach speeds of 110mph with ease. I actually didn't notice how fast I was cruising on the motorway until a local policeman made me aware !
Whilst I dont condone speeding the sheer "shock" of being caught doing 110mph was enough to stop me speeding around.Although no driving licenses were hurt or damaged on this particular incident Smile

rrsboy, I understand your point as you have one of the last new tdv8's. Unortunatley when i cam to buying a new car the v8 options was no longer available. Hence my review stating that we should forgive the lack of v8 and be happy with other features. Thumbs Up Smile

2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 S Zambezi Silver

I got rid of a 2.7 D3 12 months ago for an XF with the 3.0 V6 in it and am now back to an RRS with the 2.7 in it. I would have gone for a more up to date model but having LOST !!!! £11,500 on the Jag in 12 months and had 10 recoveries due to those stoooopid DPF filters.........well you understand my predicament.
