United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black
latest Mod

Just fitted a rear view camera to my RRS This flashes up via the sat nav screen as soon as I engage reverse. I think it's great!

I can also have the cam showing on the nav screen all the time at a touch of a button and use it as a rear view mirror

The cost was £199 for the interface & camera +£5 P&P This is a special offer normally £299 for the interface + £89 for the camera Link below for offer price!

Fitting was easy as this interface plugs directly in to the Sat Nav system under the passenger seat it over rides the signal to the front screen as soon as you select reverse via a wire that is connected to the reversing light that powers it up! Simple really! No taking dash out etc. The hardest part was running a wire from the camera which is mounted in the number plate light to the unit as the rear tail gate is as we all know glass bonded to the surround - so no way of getting to the loom to hide the wires - doh!! I'll post pic's of how I tackled this problem and run my wires shortley! But if I'd known about this before hand I'd have got a camera that fitted under the rear tailgate spoiler so I could've run the wires through the spoiler, out with the wire loom for high level break light and along headlining, down the B post to the interface under the seat completely hidden away.

So Camera in number plate light looks quite smart and with the boot lid down it's very difficlt to see it

This is the tricky part running the wire out the back of the boot lid, not able to get near the car wiring loom as it's all bonded away running within the boot lid. Short of running gaffer tape up the window to hold the wire in place the only other option I could come up with was to stick the wiring along side the glass which I did. This follows the edge of the window where it meets the metal of the bootlid around to the top of the bootlid

Then at the top of the window I ran it in to the loom as you can see. From there it runs alongside the cars loom and under the head lining along to the B post behind the passenger door, down under the carpet and in to the interface box. As I said if I had a cam that mounted under the rear boot lid spoiler it would've been much easier to run the wires! But ha- ho I cant see the wires I've run and I'm really pleased with the system. I'm going to run my iPhone in to it as there are another 2 AUX feeds in + and audio. What ever I have on my iPhone be it pictures, video's even internet TV I can play on the nav screen!

I have to say that mods we often dare not try are done without a second thought over on the D3 site, its amazing the things they do over there, and since the cars are very similar its always worth a look to see what they are up to for inspiration.

I never touched stuff on my RRS but have opened up headlights on the D3, removed the sat nav unit and connected it to my DVD player to watch movies now, go figure!

I have to say I love my RRS and I too aren't very keen to pull it about to much - this is the 1st time I've pulled the inside apart to fit a mod. I was very careful about what would come off and how it was going to be put back together, did a trail run 1st in my head! I don't think that I would've carried out the work if it wasn't a plug and play system with min wiring. I certainly wouldn't have taken the dash out, started unplugging bits and pieces! Big Cry

All said and done I'm so pleased that I've done it, it's a great system really useful. The few people that have seen it since it's been done have all commented on it saying it looks like a factory fitted system.

Just the 22" stormers to put on later in the week (just picked them up this morning) and I think I'll call it a day with mods and most likely start looking for a MY2010 model !! Cheers Laurence.
