Oman 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange
Spare wheel use

This may be a stupid question, well probably is.

I've got the standard RRS spare wheel (19" 50mph max type), but, run 285/50R20s can I use this if I have a puncture, or is the diameter difference between the tyre sizes to great and I'll damage the diff?

the reason I ask is that it's getting hot here now so its time to hit the Wadi's where there's a real chance of punturing the tyres on a rock.

Or would it be safer to get 2 spare 20" rims with the same 285/50R20s one on the roof rack fully inflated, one semi inflated in lieu of the original spare?

Cheers

You "might" get an HDC error running the spare but nothing more.

Also the gear change may become erratic

remember this is a four wheel drive car not the cheaper more problematic AWD (all wheel drive) where tyre sizes are critical

Will a 20" wheel & tire not fit underneath the car then?

FYI. AAA in Dubai have a set of 4 very good condition 20" rims and tires going for 5000Dhs. They are nice rims too...not the standard type. Tires are less then 1 year old. Ra-Ro Sport Super Dooper Charged.

OMG
I would imagine that there is absolutely no way you can drive with a 19" wheel while the rest are 20". Just think about it, the revolution of the 19" is much quicker and therefore the drift would be horrible! Vadim A.

Don't panic!!!! Most early RRS have a 19" reduced speed wheel (black) as a spare. You will find that although the wheel size is 1" different, the actual rolling radius between the two would be similar as the 20" has a lower profile tyre. Wink Thumbs Up

Having a worn tyre on one side and a new one the other (replicating what would happen if you had a puncture on a worn tyre and your spare was a new 20") would have a differnt rolling radius to the tune of 1/2" I'd say??!! Whistle

James Thumbs Up
